🌻 Finding Our Voice: What NMSAS Recovery Center Means to Us 🌻
Last week, our team gathered for a conversation that went deeper than strategy or structure - it was about language. About how we talk about NMSAS Recovery Center and what those words truly mean to us.
We started by exploring how people often hear the words “methadone clinic” or “treatment center” and the assumptions that come with them. Then we began to reframe those ideas - together - describing who we are in our own words.
Before long, we found ourselves speaking in a new way:
“I work at NMSAS Recovery Center, and for me that means…”
It was powerful to hear the words that followed. Warmth. Belonging. Hope. Connection. Healing. An "ah ha" moment for us was when we realized that this was familiar to us, because in recovery, we often hear people say, "I'm a person in recovery, and for me that means...".
That phrase, "for me that means" does something powerful: it reclaims identity! It helps replace stigma with story. It invites people to understand not only what we do, but who we are and what we believe in. So, what began as an exercise in messaging became a reflection of identity - how each of us experiences and expresses the heart of this place.
Every time we tell our story, we help reshape the way recovery is understood. Because NMSAS Recovery Center isn’t just what we do, it’s who we are.
