Giving Saturday....This is the day we are asked to help others. Thanksgiving we spend being thankful for what we have so now we get to share that with others. Inspiring Wellness has donated to Kat and Kritters Foundation to help sponsor the adoption fee of one of their long term fosters. If you would like to help them with their Home for the Holidays event (getting donations to cover the adoption fees of long term fosters to help them find homes for the holidays) you can email them at kakf3133@gmail.com. But we encourage you to find an organization that is near and dear to your heart and help them...Whether it's donating money, supplies, or time...They are always forever grateful.

For some...Me included...Today officially starts the Christmas season. Trees are up, lights are one, we will officially decorate the house today. Traditions can be important to people. My family has been cutting down our tree on the Friday after Thanksgiving since I was a little kid and have continued that with my family. My kids all have their own favorite traditions we have started, the zoo lights, seeing Santa, making cookies (some I didn't know I started like making a fun breakfast the first day of Christmas break). Do you have any traditions you are looking forward to this year?

Wellness Wednesday

With Thanksgiving tomorrow, a huge holiday for families to gather, let's talk family drama. While some families are able to fake pleasantries and keep opposing topics off the table we all have that family member who just seems to enjoy stirring the pot. Here are some tips for navigating your own personal soap opera.
1. Set Realistic Expectations - You know what your family is like, make sure you are keeping your plans realistic
2. Know your triggers - and know when to walk away
3. Define your boundaries - before you get together make sure you let people know your line
4. Plan your exit strategy - Come up with a plan if you need to leave early or escape the situation all together
5. Take Care of Yourself - Most important on this list, make sure you are well rested, and in a calm spot so you have more capacity to handle their drama...And then have things in place for after the gathering to recoup your peace.

2 days until Turkey Day! Our family enjoys our traditions and the kids have been very excited to start the Christmas season. We kick it off with the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday morning. The excitement they show in what seems to be little things...Like the trees going up and being turned on for the first time, making cookies, and just cuddling on the couch watching the parade. It helps me remember what is really important to me...While they are focused on presents of course, I get to bask in the memories and joy their excitement brings.

I hope everyone survived day one of Thanksgiving break. Only 6 more days until school. So how do we manage until then. Here are some survival tips for school breaks
1. Keep a routine, even if it's a holiday one keeping things predictable and structured help ease the chaos
2. Try to plan some activities to break up the day, even if it's something small, and even better if it's something they can do on their own
3. Quiet time is needed for everyone, not just Mom and Dad... Having some time to themselves whether it's a nap, reading, or playing independently, kids need a break from the chaos too.
4. Finally, the most important... Savor every crazy, loud moment... They won't last forever

Wellness Wednesday

Another cold, dreary day...signs reminding us of incoming winter. It is hard to find the energy and positive feelings when staying curled up inside is most appealing. You constantly hear about the benefits of self care, and this idea looks different to everyone. For some it's checking things off their "to do list", others it's a nice bubble bath, and yet others it's doing some movement like going for a walk or run. Whatever makes you feel better it's a good thing to add to your day. Maybe at the end of the night so it is a reward for your hard work and effort today. Carve our time to curl up on the couch with a book, or soak in a nice warm bath, maybe hit the gym or get one of those tasks done you've been wanting to complete. It will not only motivate you to get through the not so fun stuff, but also end the day on a positive note which can help improve your mood, improve your sleep, and even help you start off the next day on the right foot.

Let's talk about "Mom Guilt". I saw a post today stating that
"A mom's mood sets the tone for the entire household...WTF, just add that to the list of things to feel guilty about...Everyone's in a bad mood? Cool, probably my fault."
We have made jokes about mom guilt, and some of us have really felt it and understand the weight behind those laughs. But how do we let it go? Get past the constant comparisons and balancing acts. Feeling like you are constantly judged for every move and decision you make while trying to juggle everything without seeming to slip and don't forget to smile! You wanted this and love your family!
All you amazing moms/..take a breath...you have every right to feel all the feels you have right now. Acknowledge those feelings and allow them their space to be heard. Shed your unrealistic expectations and focus on what you and your family really want...I love movies like "Bad Moms" and "Yes Day" when the kids are able to really express to their parents what they truly want from their family and relationship. And give yourself some grace...you are human, we are all trying our best to raise the amazing little humans we know we have...Finally, find that support in friends, family, and community to laugh with, vent with, support, and help through this journey.

Research shows starting in the present can have a positive impact on your well-being. Practicing mindfulness can lower anxiety and stress, reduce depression, and help with sleep. Mindfulness techniques are as easy as taking some deep breaths to guided imagery and meditation. Try some different ones out and find ones that work for you. Adding them into your routine on a regular basis will have a noticeable positive impact.

Feel Good Friday!

After the week we had weather wise, this weekend will feel great! Sunny and 60's! I'm going to try to enjoy this possibly last weekend of sunshine but I love finishing off my day snuggled under the blankets nice and cozy by the fire. What is your happy place?
