Wellness Wednesday

Meditation is well known for it's benefits of reducing stress, lowering anxiety, improving focus and emotional regulation. But meditation doesn't have to look the same for everyone.
Sitting and practicing deep breathing
Practicing Yoga
Listening to music
Going for a walk
The point is to be with your own thoughts and focusing on the present thoughts. Helping to clear your mind and slow down your sympathetic nervous system.

Anxious thoughts can be very annoying. They take up our time and energy and usually aren't very helpful.
What to do....
First take notice of the thought as an anxiety though
Next ask yourself if the thought is helpful or true
Finally, reframe the thought with a more helpful one..."I'm prepared for this" instead of "what if I fail"

It's that time of year when we hear all about the new diets and ways to "get fit fast". But the truth is a healthy diet is a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. They continue to adjust the food pyramid, which is now a plate, because we are continuing to learn more about how food affects our body. The majority of your diet (50%) should be fruits and veggies now. And about 25% protein and 25% whole grains. So when you are working on that "New Year New You" keep in mind a long term healthy lifestyle shift instead of a temporary patch.

Nothing like a deep freeze to force the world to slow down a bit. But only for a second. It is important to take time to pause, whether you call it meditation, prayer, reflection, or just "resting your eyes" as my dad would say. Sunday morning I actually found myself sitting, enjoying my coffee, and just watching the birds at the feeder. No work, no emails, (a couple of google searches) but otherwise tech free. Find your Zen space, even if for only 5 min.

Started watching Pole to Pole with Will Smith... Highly recommend but especially episode 4. It talks all about how the body responds to outside forces and the benefits of nature to low stress and anxiety.
