1996 - 2000:

1999: Touchmark hits over 1,000 occupied homes.

Touchmark on West Prospect in Appleton, WI
Touchmark at Mount Bachelor Village in Bend, OR
Touchmark at Meadow Lake Village in Meridian, ID

2008 - 2025:
Touchmark University launched in 2008, offering training programs for staff and providing company-wide opportunities to share best practices and promote consistent, high-quality service across each community.
Touchmark adds:
Touchmark at The Ranch in Prescott, AZ
Touchmark in the West Hills in Portland, OR
Touchmark at Pilot Butte in Bend, OR (previously The Alexander)
Touchmark at Emerald Lake in McKinney, TX

December 2025: Touchmark at Georgetown in Georgetown, TX (previously The Hacienda at Georgetown) joins the Touchmark family.

In 1980, Touchmark was founded on a simple belief: people deserve to live fully at every stage of life.

What began as a vision for connection has grown—steadily and thoughtfully—into communities across the U.S. and Canada, shaped by the people who live and work in them every day.

As we reflect on 45+ years, we’re grateful for the residents, families, and team members who continue to make this legacy meaningful.

And the story isn’t done yet.

On November 10, 1980, Werner G. Nistler, Jr., founded Touchmark with a simple but powerful vision: to help people live fully at every stage of retirement. Inspired by couples who lived apart when care needs changed, he created a company built on connection and a true continuum of services. Werner’s brother, Steve, suggested the name “Touchmark”—a nod to artisans who place their mark on their finest work. Today, that legacy continues as we honor 45+ years of enriching lives and shaping exceptional communities.

In the early years, eight nursing centers helped the company grow, and their subsequent sales in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, North Dakota, and South Dakota provided land and/or income for future Touchmark developments. The first community was established in December 1991 in Spokane, Washington: Touchmark on South Hill.

Some of us really got the hang of it and at least all of us were laughing the whole time! let us know if you need any expert help with your next project! We are for hire! haha

We rang in the New Year The Full Life Way at Touchmark at Georgetown! 🎉 The Armadillo Swing Band had us dancing (yes—shoes were optional!), champagne was flowing, and laughter filled the room. We even paused the party to proudly introduce our 2026 Residency Council! Thank you Marilyn for a fabulous speech. Cheers to community, connection, and all the incredible moments ahead in 2026! 🥂✨

🎶We were excited to welcome Stephen Sanders, Musical Director of Central Texas Philharmonic , to Touchmark at Georgetown as he shared his talent, insight, and passion for music with our community. One of his favorite quotes says it best: “If an orchestra likes you, they will let you learn from them.” Well, Stephen brought the orchestra mindset straight to our campus this morning—no travel required! From him passing out his batons, learning together the various musical theories and finding harmony as a group, this was a rare chance to grow, listen, and be inspired. 🎼✨We are excited to support the arts and you’ll see us at The Klett!

This holiday season truly sparkled at Touchmark Georgetown. Our campus came alive as Robin & Morgan from whisked residents and guests along in charming carriage rides, while the joyful voices of the families filled the air with beloved Christmas carols. Santa stopped by to share smiles and hugs, and the sweet aroma of festive cookie decorating with brought everyone together in celebration. Moments like these—filled with laughter, tradition, and community—are what it means to live The Full Life at Touchmark Georgetown.

🎄✨ Our cozy Holiday Bazaar brought all the festive cheer this month! Fueled by warm hot cocoa and sweet cookies from our dining team, we visited vendor stalls all throughout the 1st floor of our community! Our talented cartoon artist resident, Sherian, illustrated our custom bazaar programs and made gift tags for us all! Folks were greated by the new ponies at since Santa’s reindeers were preparing for Christmas! The fun continued as guests spun the wheel and let 🎅 Santa decide who was naughty or nice—spoiler alert: plenty of nice points were earned!❤️ A special holiday shoutout to everyone who chose to shop small and support local businesses this season like 🎁 Merry Christmas Eve to all, and may your holidays be merry and bright! ✨
