Toddlers can be confusing eaters. One day they eat everything, the next day they survive on crackers and air.🍓🫐🍌🍳

The good news? That’s usually completely normal.

After age 1, growth slows down and appetites naturally fluctuate. The key is offering healthy foods consistently and letting your child decide how much to eat.

If you ever have concerns about growth or eating habits, our team at Chisholm Trail Pediatrics is here to help. 🤍

It starts with a nervous kiddo.
It ends with a mom group text.

“Wait. I actually loved them.”

Because when you find a pediatric office that listens, explains, and loves on your babies…
you tell your people.

And honestly? That’s the highest compliment we could get. 🤍

Top 5 Must-Haves for Infants & Toddlers During Sick Season

(From your team at Chisholm Trail Pediatrics 🤍)

1️⃣ Digital Thermometer (Re**al for infants under 1 year)
A fever is often the first sign something’s brewing.
✔️ Re**al temps are most accurate under 12 months
✔️ Call us for any fever 100.4°F or higher under 3 months

2️⃣ Saline + Nasal Suction (Bulb or Frida-style)
Little ones are nose breathers — congestion = misery.
✔️ Saline first
✔️ Suction after
✔️ Especially helpful before feeds & sleep

3️⃣ Cool Mist Humidifier
Helps ease cough + congestion.
✔️ Use cool mist (not warm)
✔️ Clean daily to prevent mold

4️⃣ Infant/Toddler Fever Reducer
✔️ Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
✔️ Ibuprofen (Motrin) for 6+ months
⚠️ Always dose by weight — not age
(Check our website for dosing sheet!)

5️⃣ Hydration Helpers
Sick kids don’t eat much — and that’s okay. Fluids matter more.
✔️ Breastmilk/formula
✔️ Water (if age appropriate)
✔️ Electrolyte solutions for toddlers
✔️ Popsicles for bigger littles

Bonus: Know When to Call/ ER precautions

🚩 Trouble breathing
🚩 Dehydration (less wet diapers)
🚩 Fever lasting more than 3 days
🚩 Parental gut feeling something isn’t right

🦠 “Does my child need Tamiflu?”🦠

It’s one of the most common questions we get during flu season.

The answer? It depends.

Tamiflu can be helpful — especially for high-risk children and when started within 48 hours of symptoms. But not every flu diagnosis automatically requires medication.

At Chisholm Trail Pediatrics, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all care. We look at your child’s age, medical history, timing of symptoms, and overall severity before making recommendations.

Most healthy kids recover well with rest, fluids, and fever control — but some children absolutely benefit from antiviral treatment.

If you’re unsure, call us. Our triage team is here to guide you — and yes, we offer free triage for our families ❤️

Save this post for flu season and share with a fellow parent.

Dear CTP Familles🧡

We are aware that the CDC recently recommended changes to the childhood vaccine schedule.

Our office will continue to follow the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

We understand there has been a lot of confusion. This Healthy Children article answers various questions about the AAP schedule and why the two differ:

https://www.healthychildren.org/English/safety-prevention/immunizations/Pages/Recommended-Immunization-Schedules.aspx?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=69654055&gbraid=0AAAAADyMpZHrNMv3ADxGtIbCgd2HuDtxF

Our office will continue to have the same vaccine availability and do not anticipate any changes in insurance coverage.

As always, vaccines will involve a thoughtful discussion and shared decision making between you and your provider. We are here to answer any questions and are grateful for the privilege of caring for your families! 🤍☀️🌈
