Be prepared for tomorrow. Stay safe everyone.

A lot is coming at us over the next 24-hours. We'll see wind increase from the SW tonight with scattered showers developing ahead of the cold front.

Thursday AM winds will be howling up to 50MPH as the cold front moves in. Along this front we'll see some heavier showers and a couple rumbles of thunder. Gusts may be enhanced along this front with a few gusts up to 55MPH possible.

This front will move in dropping temps 10 degrees INSTANTLY between 10A and 3P(west to east). Wind chills will plummet by 20 degrees fast.

In addition to temps falling, winds will turn to the northwest instead of the southwest. This will usher in colder air.

Between 3PM and 9PM we'll see temps fall below freezing, with an arctic front moving in after 6PM. This may freeze excess moisture out there. Main concern is sidewalks, parking lots, secondary roads and bridges/overpasses. This will lea to black ice concerns into Friday AM.

On top of ALL of that, a few snow showers will race in Thursday evening across the northern half. These snow showers won't produce much accumulation but given high winds we may see a brief drop in visibilities.

Overall tomorrow will start warm, wet and windy; then end cold, windy and frozen.

This past Saturday we hosted a training at our fire station along with Westville Fire Department. The auxiliary served a spaghetti dinner after the training for all of the participants. By us all training together makes us better together. Thank you to everyone that came out and attended the training on that snowy day.

6:20 pm Update:

The snow has moved out, aside from some lingering flurries in eastern Illinois, so the snow-related advisories and warnings have been cancelled. Now, we deal with the cold weather. East central Illinois has the best chance of seeing wind chills around -25 tonight, and that area has been upgraded to an Extreme Cold Warning.

If you don’t have to go out please stay home. Roads are very slick and let the plow drivers do their jobs. Stay safe and warm the next few days.

12/12/2025

Temps will drop below zero across much of central Illinois both Saturday night and Sunday night with resulting wind chill values as cold as 15 to 30 below.

Please be alert and stay warm with this very bad cold snap coming in.

Our ambulance crew was featured on a website that shares stories about EMS activities around the world. We’re very proud that we could assist the mother and baby and get them out safely along with the help of Georgetown Police Department.

Georgetown EMTs and police officers worked together to pull a mother and her baby through a bedroom window after fire engulfed a nearby trailer

Please be aware and careful the next few days it’s going to get extremely cold.

Many of us have gotten tornado warnings over our cell phones (Wireless Emergency Alerts) many times. But, if a "Snow Squall Warning" is issued for your area tomorrow morning, it's not out of the question that if the warning is significant enough, you could get a wireless emergency alert on your phone for it.

A "Snow Squall Warning" can be thought of the same as how a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is used during severe weather. Snow Squall Warnings mean potentially dangerous whiteout conditions are likely in the warned area, primarily impacting those driving/travel conditions.

What a big day for Georgetown Fire Protection District.

We had two major events: from 2pm to 4pm, we had the pleasure of being apart of the Georgetown Family Fun Day! We had Lakeview College of Nursing set up on-site with games. So good with the Kids! You guys had a great set up and awesome hand-out items! We started setting up for Family Fun Day at 9am. Our Awesome GFPD Auxiliary headed off the amazing Chicken and Noodles that seemed to be a huge hit! We had other staff in at the same time to help set up the ambulance bay, cleaning it and setting up the tables, among other general up keep! Thank you all for helping out! Our community generously contributed to the Free Will Donation. Thank you!!

And then the Christmas Parade! We had our fire department in there at 11am to wash their units! And they nearly ALL stayed to help out, talk to, and mingle among everyone! We had a great turnout for the parade! All of our apparatuses, fire and EM, were involved in the parade!

In summary. I wanna thank THE GRINCH AND ELF that blessed us with their presence, our fire chief, firefighters, EMS coordinator, and the EMS staff for taking the time out of their days during this hectic holiday season to help out and contribute to a beautiful day here in Georgetown!
