The room won’t stop spinning. You feel like you’re on a boat.

Simple tasks like standing up makes you nauseous or turning your head triggers episodes that last hours or days.
You’ve been told it’s BPPV (crystals in your inner ear), Meniere’s disease, or vestibular migraines.
You’ve done the Epley maneuver a hundred times. Sometimes it helps temporarily, but often it doesn’t. And it just keeps coming back.

It’s not your ear that is causing the vertigo- It’s your NECK.
Your brain uses three systems to know where you are in space:

1. Vestibular system (inner ear) - detects head movement
2. Visual system (eyes) - sees your position relative to surroundings
3. Proprioceptive system (spine and joints) - feels your body’s position

When these three systems send matching signals, your brain knows exactly where you are. When the signals don’t match, your brain gets confused—and that confusion is vertigo.

Your upper neck (cervical spine) sends MORE proprioceptive signals to your brain than any other area of your body. These signals tell your brain where your head is positioned at all times.

When C1 or C2 is subluxated (imbalanced), your brain receives WRONG information about where your head is. The proprioceptive signals don’t match what your inner ear and eyes are reporting, and your brain panics. This causes the room to spin.

Upper cervical subluxations also affect your brainstem—where all balance information is processed. This disrupts vestibular nucleus function, communication between balance centers, blood flow to the inner ear, and vagus nerve regulation (which is why you feel nauseous).

Your balance system can’t integrate information properly, even if your inner ear is structurally fine.

Upper cervical adjustments by a trained chiropractor restore accurate proprioceptive input from your neck to your brain. After an upper neck adjustment:
✅ Your brain receives correct information about head position
✅ Signals match between all three balance systems
✅ Brainstem function improves
✅ Vertigo resolves

If Epley maneuvers aren’t working, if medications barely help, if it keeps coming back—your inner ear might not be the problem. Your upper cervical spine is.

You’ve been lied to about postpartum recovery.

“Six weeks and you’re cleared!” they say.
As if your body just magically returns to its pre-pregnancy state. As if nine months of massive physical transformation and the most intense event of your life can be undone in 42 days.

The reality is: 6 weeks postpartum is when your uterus has shrunk back and your bleeding has (mostly) stopped. That’s it.

It is NOT when:
Your pelvic floor is fully restored
Your core has reconnected
Your nervous system has regulated
Your hormones have rebalanced
Your spine has realigned
You’ve actually healed

ACTUAL postpartum recovery? 6 to 12+ months. Sometimes longer.

And here’s what your body actually needs during that time:
1. Nervous System Support (3-6 months minimum)
You spent 9 months with elevated stress hormones and then went through the most physically intense experience of your life. Your nervous system needs help shifting OUT of survival mode so it can support hormone regulation, deep healing, and true recovery.
2. Physical Balance (3-12 months)
Your pelvis expanded, your spine curved forward, your ribs flared, your organs shifted, and your ligaments stretched. None of that just “snaps back.” Regular chiropractic adjustments help restore balance, support core reconnection, and prevent chronic pain patterns from setting in.

3. Hormone Rebalancing (6-18 months)
Estrogen and progesterone plummet. Prolactin surges if you’re breastfeeding. Oxytocin floods and cortisol tries to regulate. These massive shifts affect your sleep, mood, energy, weight, and healing capacity. Nervous system care supports your body’s ability to navigate this transition naturally.

The 6-week mark isn’t the finish line. It’s barely the starting line.

You didn’t “bounce back.” You TRANSFORMED.
Your body performed miracles—and it deserves the time, support, and care to heal properly.

“When should I get my baby checked?”

As soon as possible.

Your baby’s first year is the most neurologically active time of their entire life. Their brain is forming 1 million neural connections PER SECOND. Their nervous system is learning how to regulate everything: digestion, sleep, immune response, movement, emotional regulation.

But birth (even the “easy” ones) is incredibly physical. The pressure, pulling, twisting, and compression that happens during delivery can create tension and imbalances in your baby’s delicate spine, especially in the upper neck.

This interference can show up as:
-Colic and excessive crying
-Difficulty latching or nursing on one side
-Torticollis (head tilting/preference)
-Reflux and digestive issues
-Sleep struggles
-Developmental delays in rolling, crawling, sitting

When we check babies (as early as hours or days old), we’re not “fixing” them. We’re removing any interference in their nervous system so their body can develop, heal, and grow the way it’s meant to.

Gentle, specific adjustments support:
✨ Proper brain-body communication
✨ Optimal digestion and sleep
✨ Immune system development
✨ Motor skill progression
✨ Emotional regulation

The earlier you support your baby’s nervous system, the stronger their foundation for lifelong health.

Your baby’s nervous system is their lifeline. Make sure it’s functioning at 100% from day one.

📍 Schedule your newborn’s first check. We make it gentle, quick, and stress-free for your whole family.

About Dr.Shelby

Hi y’all my name is Dr. Shelby Phillips. I am a local chiropractor in Georgetown, Texas. I was born and raised in Georgetown, Texas. My family has been in Georgetown since the 1800s, so this town means a lot to my family and me. I attended Georgetown High School, I graduated in 2011. I continued my education at Texas State University (Eat em’ up cats), where I got my degree in exercise sports science. In 2015, I began my chiropractic journey at Parker University. During my clinical time at Parker, I had the privilege of working at the Veteran’s Hospital in Dallas. Which was by far one of the biggest blessings of my life, I learned so much about caring for our Veterans. After graduating from Parker, it was my dream to bring what I loved doing, back home to the people and community I love the most. I specialize in prenatal and pediatric care, but I treat all ages and have experience treating many different cases. I use many techniques which include: Prone specific, Diversified, Thompson, Activator, Webster, Upper Cervical, Gonstead.
