Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity. Our History
Gering Memorial Chapel was founded by Edward and Otto Prohs in 1914 as Prohs Brothers Hardware, Plumbing, Furniture and Undertaking. William Prohs joined the firm later when the location was at the north end of Prohs Furniture Gallery on 10th Street. Rosella Boley purchased the funeral home in 1944. A new facility was constructed at our present location on the corner of 11th and R Streets in 1947. Stewart and Ruth Dennis purchased the firm in 1953 and owned it until the merger with Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in 1970. The facility was extensively remodeled in the early 1990s. Rick Allnutt and Susan Hughes purchased the business in January 2014 and now actively carries on the over 90 year old tradition of serving Gering and the surrounding communities. Rick's company has been serving Western Nebraska since 1998 when he purchased the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball. Connecting People Through Life Through Loss
A ceremony can be anything you wish it to be: simple or elaborate, traditional or unique. No matter how it's tailored, such a ceremony is an important step in recovering from loss. OUR MISSION
The mission of Gering Memorial Chapel is to preserve our legacy of family serving families by providing compassionate, exemplary service that is built on generations of giving back, quality ethical service, and genuinely felt care, improving our service experience with each generation. Funerals as Unique as Your Life
Life is full of opportunities to show someone we love them. One such opportunity is the funeral or memorial service. Such a loving event celebrates the choices they made, the relationship you shared, and honors the memory of your loved one. Honoring Life
It's important to take the time to acknowledge the uniqueness of the deceased: the individuality of their personality, and the uniqueness of their life's path. Not just for them, but for you; it affirms the relationship, and leads to healing after loss. Honoring their life is truly an act of love – for the both of you. Designing Your Funeral
Taking the time to design your service is a loving act, and not a difficult one. We invite you to explore the seemingly infinite number of ways to celebrate and honor a life. Funeral Services
It's often seen as easier not to have a memorial service or funeral, and it's certainly seen as a less expensive alternative. But we're here to say this: an easy, cheaper path is not always better one. Grief experts all agree: a ceremony is an important part of the healing process. Honoring Veterans
At Gering Memorial Chapel we are eternally indebted to our military veterans who courageously serve our nation and protect our freedom. We honor our veterans by assisting their families with obtaining all veterans' benefits, Social Security benefits and life insurance benefits. We server all of Western Nebraska.
