Due to snow accumulation, road conditions and forecasted temperatures, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐲𝐬𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐠 𝐀𝐫𝐞𝐚 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰, 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟐𝟔𝐭𝐡. In addition, all extracurricular activities are cancelled.

This will be a traditional snow day, thus there will be no K-12 instruction.
There will be no make-up day for students, as the district will still meet state requirements for instructional hours.

Facilities department members should report at the direction of their supervisors.

Tuesday Thoughts 💕

I don't know where you are right now. Not physically, but emotionally. I don't know what is on your plate or what you are dealing with or what you are feeling. I don't know how heavy the world feels or what is scary or exciting.

But I do know this - you matter.
You are so important.
You are valuable and wonderful.
You are needed.

You bring joy.

You are enough.

You make a difference.

So instead of clenching onto all the emotions or feeling like a tightly wound spring, I just want you to dare to take a breath and to let go.

Just a bit.

To get that breath.

And in the breath, in the inhale, breathe in truth and peace and comfort and joy.

Mental health is a complicated picture that is impacted by a variety of other aspects. I spent part of the day at the Healthy Adams County Forum to determine what the goals for the Behavioral Health Task Force will be for the next 3 years. It’s an ambitious process given the amount of stress the residents in this county are under - food insecurity, housing concerns, substance use, financial anxiety and mental health concerns continue to rise. Grateful to the folks who continue to turn out to pave a path forward…we are certainly stronger as a team.

The community has been deeply impacted this week after a senseless act of violence caused three law enforcement officers to lose their lives and two other law enforcement officers to be seriously wounded.

Since then, the community has leaned into each other, offered support, and created various ways to give back and share both gratitude and grief. There have been poignant and valuable rituals, services, and vigils that surely provide both individual movement towards healing and improved sense of community.

In so many ways, the community is engaging in healthy and helpful strategies to manage the natural distress that these types of experiences cause. In the event that any community members find themselves in need of additional clinical support, here is a link for local therapy providers:

I spent part of the day attending the Su***de Prevention and Awareness Event in Gettysburg today and was able to distribute resources and 988 posters to various businesses and community members.

September marks Su***de Prevention Month and encourages all of us to be more vocal and more mindful about the needs of our community members. Adams County has lost 9 members to completed su***de this year and we must continue our efforts to support those experiencing that level of distress.

Thought Leaders from across the county joined forces today at the Strategic Planning Retreat to build out goals to lead agencies for the next three years. It’s a complex process to assess data and determine how to best prioritize significant needs for various underserved populations. However, when you put like-minded people, working towards a common vision, in the same room, great things happen. I remain grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with these community colleagues. As chairperson of the Behavioral Health Taskforce, I am excited to see our new mental health goals come to life!

A heartfelt thank you to the community that continues to support my clinical work and the folks that allow me to walk along side their journeys. June marks 4 years of Songbird Counseling Services and I remain both humbled, and fulfilled.
