It’s one of the most common questions we get.
The truth is… not every injury needs an MRI or X-ray. In many cases, a thorough clinical exam tells us most of what we need to know.
So when is imaging helpful?
👉 When symptoms aren’t improving as expected
👉 When we suspect a more serious injury (significant tear, fracture, etc.)
👉 When imaging would change the treatment plan
👉 When we need more clarity after the physical exam
Most aches and pains actually respond well to guided rehab and load management, without the need for expensive imaging.
When imaging is helpful, we can help determine the best option—whether that’s ultrasound, MRI, or X-ray—based on what we’re looking for.
The goal isn’t to get the most imaging. The goal is to get the right information to guide the right treatment.
If you’re unsure whether imaging would help your injury, we’re always happy to talk through it with you. Many of our providers can provide you with a script if needed!
