Join us in recognizing employee of the quarter: Michael Gruner, SLPA! πŸŽ‰

Known to his clients as Mr. Mike, Michael is a certified Speech-Language Pathology Assistant with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Idaho State University. He gained experience treating children of all ages while working at South Kitsap School District. Prior to becoming a certified SLPA, he was honorably discharged from the Army as an NCO after 9 years of service. Holding this leadership position provided Michael with a unique experience and perspective that he brings to his current role. Michael currently treats pediatric patients in our Silverdale clinic.

Outside of work, Michael is a father to 2 beautiful daughters. His family enjoys having movie marathons, playing video games, and reading books together.

THANK YOU for your consistent dedication to the families you serve, Mr. Mike!

The core word of the week is "go"! 🏁
"Core words" are a small set of words that make up most of what we actually say on a daily basis. These vocabulary words are very important for early language development. Parents and therapists can support their children's core vocabulary by modeling core words in different contexts and creating opportunities for the child to use the word.

Opportunities to model "go" include:
-playing with racecars
-starting an obstacle course
-paired with other core words such as "go up", "go down" during play
-saying "go to sleep" at bedtime or during pretend play
-any opportunity to use "ready...set..."

This word is relevant all throughout our day, in ways we might not even think about. There are many simple ways to expose your child to the word and facilitate saying it on their own -- easily 50-100 times in a day!

Ask your child's therapist for more ideas on modeling core words to support your child's language development.

The core word of the week is "close"! πŸšͺ↩

"Core words" are a small set of words that make up most of what we actually say on a daily basis. These vocabulary words are very important for early language development. Parents and therapists can support their children's core vocabulary by modeling core words in different contexts and creating opportunities for the child to use the word.

Last week's word of the week was "open"; many of the same tips can be used to model this closely related core word:

-"Close your eyes" to get a surprise or play hide and seek
-"Close the toybox" after cleaning up
-"Close the door", cabinet, or window
-"Close" your mouth after a bite of food
-"Close" the car door after you climb inside

This word is relevant all throughout our day, in ways we might not even think about. There are many simple ways to expose your child to the word and facilitate saying it on their own -- easily 50-100 times in a day!

Ask your child's therapist for more ideas on modeling core words to support your child's language development.
