We’re delighted to welcome a new Tai Chi Fan class to our weekly calendar, led by local instructor Angela. Often described as a “moving meditation,” this practice blends traditional Tai Chi movements with martial arts techniques, flowing motion, and the gentle rhythm of opening and closing fans to create a visually striking and deeply calming experience.

Residents are already enjoying this new class as part of the wide range of fitness and wellness offerings at Heron’s Key, designed to support balance, focus, and overall well-being. We’re so happy to see it come to life!

This week, we were excited to host the second session of a resident-led self-defense class at Heron’s Key, and the turnout and energy were fantastic.

Led by a resident who is a longtime martial arts student and instructor and a 4th degree black belt, the class focused on practical strategies to help residents feel prepared, aware, and confident. Participants explored the idea of mind over matter and adaptable techniques designed to build confidence through practice.

While it is a topic we wish we did not have to cover, having the tools and confidence to stay safe is an empowering skill set at any age. This class grew from resident interest and will continue as an ongoing offering.

Thank you to our instructor and to everyone who showed up ready to learn, engage, and support one another.

We were honored to host our inaugural Social Accountability Awards Ceremony, welcoming this year’s grant recipients — Food Backpacks 4 Kids, Harbor WildWatch, and Olympic Civic Services — to campus to accept their awards and share more about the meaningful work they’re doing in the Gig Harbor community.

It was a wonderful celebration and a special moment to recognize the partnerships that strengthen our community. Our residents care deeply about giving back, and as a nonprofit organization, Heron’s Key is proud to help amplify that impact.

We’re grateful for everything these organizations contribute, and we encourage you to learn more about the important work they’re doing in our area.

Turkey Trot Fun at Heron’s Key!

We got a head start on our Thanksgiving festivities with a fun Turkey Trot around the pond! Residents and team members bundled up, put on their festive turkey crowns, and enjoyed a few spirited laps together. This year, we had two top finishers, each proudly posing with the coveted turkey hat!

It was the perfect way to lead into the holiday, a little movement, and a lot of joy.
