Collaborative Counseling Institute

Collaborative Counseling Institute We are here to support clients and clinicians in achieving their goals! Hey there, fellow therapist! We’re here to support you as well.

We believe in the importance of relationships; that’s why we created a place to provide the best possible care for your therapeutic needs. Our therapists are trained in various modalities all with one common goal: to provide a safe space for growth and collaboration with you, as the client. In partnership with Clinical Best Practice Institute, we offer a unique path beginning from Internship, or Associate License, to grow into a well-prepared Clinical Supervisor. If you are interested in joining our team, seeking external supervision, or have questions about the pathway, please contact us! We also have space we would love to share with you. Collaborative Counseling Institute houses a 260+ square feet space to facilitate groups, intensives, trainings, and any other conference-area needs. If you are interested in renting our space, please contact us!

We are stoked to welcome Sarah Chang to the Collab team as part of our partnership with ASU’s Marriage and Family Therapy program. Sarah brings years of experience working with kiddos and teens and is passionate about supporting couples and families.

Hi! I’m Sarah, a MAS-MFT intern at Arizona State University. I’m deeply passionate about supporting people while exploring their inner worlds with curiosity, compassion, and authenticity. My interests and approaches to therapy are rooted in a belief that our struggles are not a sign that something is “wrong” more rather that something important is asking to be better understood.
I’m a lifelong learner who finds joy in new experiences! Whether I’m studying, baking, writing, or painting, creativity is one of the ways I stay connected to life and to others. Outside of the therapy room, you can usually find me trying new foods, taking a nap, coloring, or enjoying live music and stand-up comedy. I value warmth, humor, and a genuine relatable human connection, and I strive to bring that same presence into my work with clients.

So excited to enter our THIRD year of partnership with ASU to offer✌🏼masters-level intern clinicians here at Collab. Keep a look out for more information this week about intern sessions and scheduling, but first, meet Anthony Mechfield!

Hello, my name is Anthony. I am dedicated to my studies and excited to begin applying evidence-based theories in clinical sessions. I am passionate about becoming a marriage and family therapist, as it brings together two of my core interests: helping people and lifelong learning.

Outside of my academic work, I enjoy spending time with my wife, our dogs and cats, and with family and friends. I value being active and curious, and enjoy hiking and camping, biking, indoor rock climbing, and strength training. I also love games of all kinds and immersing myself in stories through books, television, and films—particularly in the genres of biography, documentary, comedy, science fiction, and fantasy.

I grew up with five younger siblings and moved approximately every three years, living in Arizona, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Texas, and Utah. These experiences helped shape my adaptability and appreciation for diverse perspectives. I am grateful for the opportunity to join Collaborative Counseling Institute and support their mission of creating a space where individuals, couples, and families feel empowered to create meaningful change in their lives.

Reflecting on our people after our winter dinner last night…

If you’re a client with our office, I hope you feel the sense of connection this team has. I hope you walk in the door and feel a sense of belonging. I hope you get to witness therapists chatting in the hallway together between sessions, regulating our own nervous systems and practicing what we preach.

If you’re a therapist, I hope you’ve found your people. I hope you’re part of an environment where you know you can talk through your hardest moments with safety and security. I hope you have someone who highlights your strengths and gifts as a helper. This work is hard and humbling- especially this time of year.

We’re hardwired for connection folks. What a gift when we find it.

•The old adage “do as I say, not as I do?” Yeah, research doesn’t back that one up..
•Kids and teens learn best from modeling- not just listening
•This doesn’t mean parents need to be perfect 100% of the time!!!
•But we do love to encourage parents to look out for opportunities to model a preferred behavior instead of getting stuck talking about it (over, and over, and over 😉)

One experience you can always count on at Collab: we’re going to meet you where you’re at, connecting human to human, always.

If you’re feeling nervous to reach out for therapy, of course you are. If you’re feeling nervous to share your story, of course you are. We want to support you through the nervousness when you’re ready- because no one can do it alone.
