Nurses! Next month will be Nurse Appreciation Month. You nurses put your body through the grinder and most of you come in all beat up from helping others for hours on end. So treat yourself during Nurse Appreciation Month in JULY where we will be offering $25 off of 45, 60, 75 and 90 minute massages.

All you have to do is schedule a massage appointment, and present your Nurse badge on the day of your appointment to get the offered discount. Because availability is limited, there is a limit of 1 massage per person, (for active nurses (not retired nurses at this time unfortunately). So tell a nurse to tell a nurse! Thank you for your caring hearts and effort!

All of you pickleball lovers, and tennis players...you HAVE to prioritize shoulder strength/stability! We often think that as long as we're active and moving, it's enough to keep our joints nice and healthy when in reality, the more repetitive movements we perform without strengthening, the more damage we're causing to the joint. Especially as we get older and the blood supply to the rotator cuff muscles starts to diminish and our muscle mass slowly decreases.

Of course, you want to release any muscle tension surrounding the shoulder joint prior to doing any of these exercises. And do not perform any of these if you experience pain.

With these exercises you're strengthening the shoulder joint through various ranges of motion, you're hitting every movement the shoulder joint performs, internal and external rotation, flexion, extension, horizonal abduction and adduction... You're targeting the most important muscles of the shoulder joint (rotator cuff muscles), you're hitting your rhomboids, middle and lower traps, (typically underactive in a lot of you)...

These are all simple exercises that will help mimic the various movements your shoulder joint will perform while playing pickleball.

This is one of the more obvious reasons and the reason why many of you seek out massage and stretch therapy. With muscle tension comes muscle imbalance, with muscle imbalance comes postural distortion, and with postural distortion comes pain, limited range of motion, loss of function, injury...
You have to be consistent with muscle release and stretching and be sure to release tension PRIOR to stretching. So foam roll first.

It's a must! Your body needs what it needs and that will never change. Get your blood work done, learn about yourself so you can get on the right path to managing your pain, sleep, mood, headaches etc.

Similar with the neck and shoulder relationship, compression on these nerves at the lumbar spine can create issues in the hip and down the leg. In some cases, your back pain may turn to hip pain, then hip pain turns to knee pain… all because of the compression occurring at the lumbar spine. A common trigger point for clients that come in with lateral knee pain in the Vastus Lateralis (Quad muscle that sits under the ITBand) often refers pain up into the lumbar spine. This is why we need to keep our lumbar spine functional! Keep moving, strengthen your core, your glutes and legs, stretch and release.

This is why I always start with the neck for clients that come in with any shoulder, arm or wrist pain/discomfort... It's all about nerve innervation. If these nerve roots become compressed due to neck tension and eventual posture changes (forward head posture), you can do all the shoulder, arm forearm stretches and exercises you want but if you don't address the issues with your neck, it'll be an uphill, annoying battle!
