About myself: My focus while obtaining my DVM degree was in small and exotic animals. I’ve kept, shown, raised and basically spent my life with all types of animals and always knew that my life would revolve around the care of animals. My ultimate goal in my practice of veterinary medicine is to provide my furry, feathered, or scaly patients with the care and attention their guardians would expect for themselves. All my life, my home has been filled to overflowing with “little critters” of all types. As long as I can remember I wished to become a veterinarian and have worked towards that goal. I was fortunate enough to attend WSU where I completed my bachelors in veterinary science, graduating Magna Cum Laude. I also obtained my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from WSU where I was a member of the veterinary honors society of phi zeta and again graduated Magna Cum Laude. Since starting practice at Alta Mesa Animal Hospital in May of 2000, I’ve evolved from an associate position to the hospital’s Medical Director. In 2012 I married a wonderful man who is a practicing human pharmacist. I’m fortunate that my husband shares my passion for animals and understands my dedication to patient care. Purpose: This page was created as an extension of my long held web site and has now evolved to include my own Small & Exotic Pet Hospital in Gilbert, AZ. See www.littlecrittersvet.com

This little crested gecko came to see us because one of her eyes looked more swollen than the other. Upon closer examination, we noticed increased fluid in the front part of her right eye and a slight change in the shape of the iris. 🦎

To better understand what was going on, we checked her eye pressure and performed an eye stain to look for any injuries or irritation. Eye injuries in reptiles can be caused by many things from trauma and debris to infections or changes in pressure so it’s always a good idea to have them checked out right away if something doesn’t look normal. 🩺

Regular check-ups are key to keeping your exotic pets healthy and comfortable! To schedule your geckos next exam give us a call at (480)696-7744. 📞

Our exotic vet examines a ferret who’s been grinding his teeth and losing weight. The back of his tongue was bright red and inflamed, a possible sign of toxin exposure or an ulcer. Thankfully, it looks like he’s passing a small foreign body, so his prognosis is good.

Our exotic veterinarian examined this axolotl who presented with multiple skin lesions, shortened gills, blackened toes, and red pericloacal tissue. We’ll be performing a biopsy, as well as bacterial and fungal cultures, to determine the underlying cause. Radiographs will also help us evaluate internal health. Axolotls are sensitive species, and early intervention is key to successful treatment.
