Next time you come across a dandelion, encourage your kids to carefully pull it apart. Notice that it is actually comprised of many tiny flowers (florets) appearing as a single bloom. This is called a compound flower.

All the other members of the Asteraceae family, which includes sunflowers, asters, zinnias, and chicory also have compound flowers.

𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀:

•Rolly pollies aren't insects. They're isopods, which is a type of crustacean. They are closely related to crabs, lobsters, and shrimp.

•They have 7 pairs of legs.

•Rolly pollies breath with gill-like structures. Because their gills must stay damp to function, rolly pollies require damp or humid habitats like under logs or rocks.

•Rolly pollies have blue blood because they use a copper-based protein called hemocyanin to transport oxygen, instead of the iron-based hemoglobin that makes human blood red.

•Rolly pollies are beneficial for your garden because they break down decaying materials, contributing to topsoil development.

•Females carry their eggs in a pouch on their belly called a marsupium.

🧠Autism wires the brain differently. Understanding these brain-based differences helps clarify why many autistic individuals experience challenges with emotional processing and regulation.

🧠Because there are differences in the brain in specific areas autistic individuals show challenges with fears, emotional processing and regulation, decision making and social understanding and empathy.

🔋Autism is a nervous system disability. Therefore it is important that the foundation of support is nervous system focused.

✅Co-regulation support from a regulated adult.
✅Shorter academic learning windows with emotional regulation balancing activities added.
✅Structuring activities
✅ Balanced protein meals in regular intervals
✅Visual schedules
✅Organization
✅Reducing pressure and stress
✅Creating a safe trusting space with safe people

🔋Reminder: if the nervous system is in fight/flight mode with a stressed out nervous system you will see challenges academically. You cannot learn if you’re not regulated. 🙂
