✨ We’re excited to highlight one of our wonderful Speech-Language Pathologists, Emily, who joined the Pinwheel Therapy family in 2024— she quickly became an invaluable part of our team. After relocating from Dallas, TX to The Woodlands, TX in 2023, she and her husband became proud parents to a sweet one-year-old daughter and recently welcomed a baby boy in February. Outside of work, Emily loves spending time with her family, traveling, and embracing her creative side. Her hobbies include refinishing furniture, organizing spaces, and creating fun content. What she loves most about being a Speech-Language Pathologist is the incredible community she gets to be part of every day. The opportunity to collaborate with talented therapists, professionals, and clients has been both inspiring and rewarding! Emily values the constant learning, connection, and shared passion that make this field so meaningful. ✨

Did you know? Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) work in far more places than just one setting! 🎭🎬🏫🏥🏠

SLPs work in schools, supporting students with speech, language, social communication, literacy-related skills, and AAC to help them succeed academically and socially. They also collaborate closely with teachers, families, and special education teams to support students across all grade levels.

You can also find SLPs in hospitals, where they assess and treat communication, cognitive, voice, and swallowing disorders. They play a critical role in acute care, NICUs, ICUs, and inpatient units—helping patients after strokes, brain injuries, surgeries, or serious medical events.

Beyond schools and hospitals, SLPs work in theaters and performance spaces, helping actors and singers maintain vocal health, improve projection, and prevent injury. Some SLPs even work on movie and TV sets, coaching performers on voice use, articulation, dialects, and vocal stamina.

SLPs also serve clients in rehabilitation centers and in clients’ homes, providing personalized therapy in natural environments that support real-life communication and recovery.

Because SLPs work across the lifespan and in such diverse environments, no two days ever look the same—and that variety is one of the most rewarding parts of the profession!

✨ We are proud to highlight Alexa, one of our skilled Speech-Language Pathologist Assistants from League City, Texas. Alexa is a proud graduate of Texas Tech University, and brings creativity, dedication, and warmth to her role. Outside of work, she enjoys graphic design, traveling, and shopping, as well as spending time with her two beloved doodles, a Goldendoodle and a Labradoodle. Alexa’s favorite part of being a speech therapist is the rewarding experience of watching her students’ confidence grow as they work toward their goals. She finds great fulfillment in helping them achieve success and values the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in their communication skills. Her favorite book is The Giving Tree, and when it comes to favorite foods, tacos take the top spot for Alexa! ✨

🧠 It’s All in the Brain!
Did you know the left side of the brain is in charge of language for most people? When this area is affected—like after a stroke—it can lead to aphasia, impacting speaking, understanding, reading, and writing.

Speech therapy plays a key role in rebuilding communication skills, but recovery is truly a team effort. Occupational therapists (OTs) help individuals relearn daily tasks, while physical therapists (PTs) support strength, mobility, and independence—so people can fully participate in everyday life.
