Thank-you to all that came out to the Women's Event on Wednesday! It was so great to see you!! A few questions came up at the end that I would to address and make sure there is good clarification on:
1. The use of herbal teas/botanical medicine, again which I love to use. However, they should also be respected medicinally as well and as we discussed everyone is individual. When I have patients in the office we will put the medications and herbs through a database to see if there may be any known interactions we should be aware of..... So again, if you are on any medications or carry certain diagnosis it is recommended you seek professional counsel before utilizing.
2. In regards to sun/sunscreen: It is ALWAYS, ALWAYS recommended to AVOID BURNING!! (Also side note: be sure to do regular skin checks!) Many sunscreens carry toxic chemicals in them that are endocrine disruptors, and also carcinogenic. Many are not allowed in protected natural swimming areas due to there toxicity. So if you are going to be in the sun for any extended period of time it is recommended to find a safe sunscreen (or make your own!:) You can go to this link and choose an EWG verified sunscreen. (EWG Verified means that: "When you see the EWG VERIFIED® mark on a product, you can be sure it's free from EWG's chemicals of concern and meets our strictest standards for your health.")
EWG’s Skin Deep® database gives you practical solutions to protect yourself and your family from everyday exposures to chemicals in personal care products.
