This April we are proud to celebrate Carol and her 20th anniversary with Gillette Optometric Clinic. Carol’s dedication, professionalism, and passion for patient care have made a lasting impact on both our team and the many patients she has helped over the years.

Carol grew up on a dairy farm in North Dakota. After graduating from high school, she began working as a receptionist at a local optometrist office in Mandan, ND. While working there and assisting at several satellite offices, she developed her skills and learned the role of an optician.

After getting married and moving away from North Dakota, Carol continued working in optometric offices across several states including Alabama, Florida, Colorado, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wyoming, expanding her knowledge and experience in many areas of the field.

While living in Florida, Carol learned the technician side of optometry. After attending SECO and learning about the AOA Paraoptometric certification program, she pursued professional certification and earned her Certified Paraoptometric Technician (CPOT) in 1996 and later her Certified Paraoptometric Coder (CPOC) in 2013.

Carol’s dedication to her profession has been recognized with many honors. In 2013 she was named the Wyoming Paraoptometric of the Year, and in 2018 she received the American Optometric Association Paraoptometric of the Year Award, an incredible national achievement. This June, Carol will also receive a Lifetime Achievement Award recognizing her outstanding contributions to the profession.

Carol lives in Gillette, Wyoming with her wonderful family and has been employed with Gillette Optometric Clinic since April 2006, making this year her 20th anniversary with the practice.

Beyond her work in the clinic, Carol has contributed greatly to the optometric community. She serves as the Para Education Coordinator for the Northern Rockies Optometric Conference, the Wyoming Vision Source Facilitator, and is a Trustee on the Wyoming Paraoptometric Association (WPA). She is also a past WPA President, currently serves on the AOA Education Committee, and has been a liaison to the local Lions Club, helping connect patients in need with vision care support.

Through obtaining certification and with the support of the optometrists she has worked with, Carol has taken what began as a job and turned it into a career she is truly proud of. Being able to assist patients with their vision care continues to be incredibly rewarding for her.

We are looking for a friendly, motivated individual to join our Optical Team! If you enjoy helping people, have an eye for style, and like working in a fast-paced healthcare environment, this may be the perfect position for you.

Position Responsibilities:
• Assisting patients with frame and lens selection
• Educating patients on lens options and coatings
• Adjusting and repairing eyeglasses
• Taking measurements for proper lens fit
• Providing excellent customer service
• Helping keep the optical area organized and welcoming

Preferred Qualifications:
• Customer service experience
• Retail or optical experience is a plus (but willing to train the right person)
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work well with a team
