Modified legs up the wall. I actually learned this from my Dad. Growing up he would walk miles for work and when he got home he would elevate his feet on the couch. I learned that caring for yourself can be simple yet effective.

Standing all day for work some days my legs ache and feel weary to the bone. This is one way I find relief. Never discount a quick rest and feeling better for it.

Most tension isn’t muscular.
It’s protective.

That tightness you keep trying to fix isn’t just about muscles. It’s your body doing its job. Holding, bracing, staying ready. Not because something is wrong but because something inside you doesn’t feel fully safe to let go yet.

We’ve been taught to push through it. Stretch it out. Force it to release. But the body doesn’t soften when it feels pushed. It softens when it feels supported.

When your shoulders stay tight, when your jaw won’t unclench, when your breath feels shallow… it’s protection. It’s your nervous system staying one step ahead, trying to take care of you in a world that rarely slows down.

Most people think tight shoulders need more stretching. After working on thousands of bodies, I’ve seen something different…

It’s not just muscle.
It’s your nervous system.

When your body stays in a constant state of “on,” your shoulders don’t fully let go. Even when you’re trying to relax.

This is one of my favorite gentle resets I give clients between sessions.

Wall Angels look simple, but done slowly, they help your body feel safe enough to release.

Start with 30 seconds.
Build toward 2 minutes.
No forcing. No pushing.

Just slow, controlled movement and breath.

If it feels tight, that’s not failure… that’s information.

Your body isn’t tired; it’s overstimulated.

We live in a world that never truly shuts down.
Phones buzzing.
Notifications lighting up.
Constant input, even when you’re “resting.”
So your nervous system stays partly on… all day.

Not enough to cause panic.But enough to prevent full relaxation.
Over time, that leads to feelings of:

You’re tired… but wired.
Your body feels heavy, but your mind won’t slow down.
You rest, but don’t feel refreshed.

That’s not laziness. It’s a nervous system that hasn’t truly exhaled.

This is why I focus so much on calming the body first. Because when the nervous system feels safe… everything else begins to shift.
