This Diabetes Awareness Month, we want to recognize the importance of managing your vision while you are also managing diabetes.

Diabetes can lead to diabetic retinopathy, which is the leading cause of blindness for adults in lower and middle age brackets, and it can also cause cataracts and glaucoma to develop earlier and progress more quickly than it does in people without diabetes.

Fall is arriving just in time to give us dry eyes this season –
Here are 3 quick tips for managing dry eyes:

💦 Stay hydrated, your eyes need water just as much as your body.
�💨 Use a humidifier to fight off that dry autumn air indoors.

🍂 Protect your eyes on windy days – Limit time outdoors on windy days, wear sunglasses to help keep pollen from entering your eyes and use artificial tears to help flush out and rehydrate eyes as needed!

A what? Astigmatism. Funny word, common problem.

When the eye surface is curved irregularly, it changes the way light passes through to the retina, resulting in blurred or distorted vision. It can lead to near or farsighted vision, but it is easily corrected with glasses or contacts!

Sometimes it isn’t caught in kids until they’re in their early teens to 20s. Is your older kid having trouble reading the board at school? It might be time for an eye exam!

While symptoms are most common after age 60, cataracts can begin developing much earlier. That’s why annual screenings in your 40s and beyond are so important — they help us monitor changes and step in with treatment when needed.
