🚨 WE NEED YOUR HELP – PEORIA COUNTY 🚨

Across Peoria County and surrounding areas, our volunteer fire departments are facing a serious staffing shortage.

Calls don’t stop. Emergencies don’t wait. But fewer and fewer people are available to answer when the pager goes off.

This isn’t just about firefighters and EMTs — we need support members too.

Not everyone has to run into a burning building to make a difference.

👉 You can help with:
• Fundraising & events
• Administrative support
• Equipment & station upkeep
• Traffic control & scene support
• Community outreach
• Rehab & support services during incidents

đź’Ą No experience? No problem.
We provide training, guidance, and a team that has your back.

💥 Already busy? That’s okay.
Even a few hours a month can make a real impact.

đź’Ą Looking for purpose?
There is nothing more rewarding than serving your own community when it needs you most.

Our departments are more than just emergency services — we’re family. And right now, that family needs to grow.

If you’ve ever thought about joining… this is your sign.

We need you.

We’re running out of people.

This isn’t a problem unique to one town or one firehouse. It’s happening everywhere.

Across our communities, the number of people willing and able to volunteer is shrinking. At the same time, the calls are not slowing down. If anything, they’re increasing. More emergencies. More need. Fewer people stepping forward to meet it.

Inside the firehouse, that reality is already here, and being felt in real ways.

The same names keep showing up. The same group of people answering calls again and again. The list isn’t getting longer. The workload isn’t getting lighter. The workforce isn't getting younger. We’re relying on neighboring departments to fill the gaps, and they’re relying on us to help them more than ever.

This isn’t about the future anymore. This is happening right now.

I won’t sugarcoat it. Joining a volunteer fire department isn't easy, and it takes time. The initial training is demanding. It will interrupt your routine. There will be nights when it’s inconvenient, when it would be easier to stay home, when you question whether you can keep up.

That part is real. But it’s also temporary.

What’s on the other side of that effort is something most people will never experience. You learn how to stay calm when others can’t. You learn how to step into situations people naturally avoid and actually be useful. You gain real skills you use on calls, at home, and in everyday life. And you become part of a group that shows up for their neighbors when they need it most.

It’s rewarding. It’s satisfying. And it makes a difference in your life, and in your community. It changes how you see yourself.

This isn’t about being a certain type of person. It’s not about being the strongest or the fastest. It’s not about having experience or knowing exactly what to do on day one. There are roles for all kinds of people; on the fireground, in EMS, and behind the scenes.

What matters is the willingness to step forward and learn. Men and women. Young adults. Parents. People with full-time jobs and other commitments. People who have thought about it before but never took the first step. You don’t need to be ready for the worst right now. You just need to be willing to start.

Because here’s the truth: The calls will keep coming. They always do. It might be your house. It might be your neighbor. The only question is who will be there to answer them. Will it be you?

If this made you stop for even a second, don’t overthink it. Stop by your local firehouse. Message them. Talk to someone. Sit in on a drill. Ask questions. No pressure. No commitment. Just come see what it’s really about.

Because the hardest part isn’t the training. It’s walking through the door for the first time.

đźš’ Station 2 Needs Volunteers đźš’

Timber Hollis Fire Protection District Station 2 in Kingston mines is in desperate need of more volunteer firefighters. Currently, we only have four firefighters assigned to the station, and we would like to increase that number to at least eight in order to adequately staff the station and continue providing reliable emergency response to our community.

Our volunteers respond to fires, medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, and many other calls for service. Being a volunteer firefighter is a challenging but incredibly rewarding way to serve your community.

If you’ve ever thought about becoming a firefighter or want to give back to your community, now is the time. Training is provided, and no prior experience is required—just a willingness to learn and serve.

📍 Stop by one of our stations or contact us on Facebook to learn how to join.

Tonight members of THFD spent the evening training on roof ventilation and saw operations. Crews used the opportunity to work on our old pavilion that was blown down during a recent storm.

This training allowed firefighters to practice proper ventilation techniques, improve saw handling skills, and reinforce safety procedures while operating on a roof. Hands-on training like this helps ensure our members stay prepared and ready to perform these tasks safely and efficiently when responding to real emergencies.

Thank you to all the members who came out tonight and continue dedicating their time to training and serving our community. đźš’

Interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter? THFD is always looking for motivated individuals who want to give back to their community. If you’re interested in joining our team, stop by one of our four stations or contact us on Facebook to learn more about how you can get involved. 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

Goodbye Old 901

Today we say goodbye to Old 901, a unit that carried a lot of history with it. This truck was the last piece of apparatus at Station 4 that was originally owned by the Tuscarora Fire Department. Over the years it faithfully served our firefighters and community, answering many calls and being part of countless responses.

Last year we replaced it with a 2025 Ford F-250, helping modernize the fleet and better support our members in the field.

While it’s tough to see it go, we’re happy to know this unit is headed to Chandlerville, where it will continue serving another community. We hope it helps their department for many more years to come.

Thank you, 901, for your years of service. đźš’

Welcome to the Fleet!
