Did you know heart attack deaths increase during the winter holidays? Stress, cold weather and busy schedules can all play a role—but knowing the warning signs can save lives.

Common symptoms include:
✅ Chest discomfort
✅ Shortness of breath
✅ Pain in the arm, back, neck or jaw
✅ Nausea or lightheadedness

If you or someone you know experiences these symptoms, call 911 immediately.

Know the signs of cardiac arrest.
It is likely that a person is having a cardiac arrest if they:
🧎Collapse suddenly and lose consciousness (pass out)
😮‍💨Stop breathing, don’t breathe effectively, or start gasping for air
🗣️Do not respond to shouting or tapping.
❤️Do not have a pulse. It’s hard to find a pulse, so you do not need to spend time trying to check it. Instead, call 9-1-1, start CPR, and get an AED.

Certain types of stroke can be treated with special medication that must be administered within three hours of symptoms first appearing. That timing includes medical assessment and imaging. You should always note the time when you see stroke symptoms and call 9-1-1 right away.
