Yessss!
I hear this all the time!
“They say”, or the “Classes said…”
Get evidenced based info if you need it; but follow your heart and be careful of the internet and socials.
If you need a consult to check in for clarity, we’re here💙🩷
THEY SAID I NEEDED TO….
They said I need a stash of milk even though I’m not really leaving the baby with anyone
They said breastfeed your baby, but not past a year🧐
They said pump overnight to maintain supply, but don’t breastfeed your baby if they wake up🧐
They said breast milk is the most nutritious food you can give to your baby, but it loses its nutrition after 1🧐
They said baby can sleep 12 hours at night, so where’s my milk supply gone?🧐
They said I needed to pump every feeding, now what do I do with all this milk?🧐
My ni***es are in pain and damaged but they said baby is gaining weight fine so there’s nothing to be done🧐
They said to schedule feedings for only every three hours, but my baby is waking up fussy and hungry🧐
They said offer each breast for 15 minutes, but my baby won’t stay latched that long🧐
They said offer each breast for only 15 minutes, but my baby still acts hungry🧐
Who are “they” and why are you listening to them? I frequently have families say “They said...” but when I ask who “they” actually is the family has no idea. Or it’s some unreliable source like the internet from a desperate 2am search 🧐 Some times it’s a family member, a post from a social media mom group, or occasionally a misinformed health care provider who is trying to be seen as helpful but really has no clue what they’re talking about. Internet information around breastfeed usually caters to “average” or “typical” feeding experiences. But what’s “typical” may not be your story, and what you’re experiencing may still be normal, just different than the majority. Don’t let others get in your head and make you question yourself and your abilities to feed and parent your baby. If you have questions or need help, set up a consultation today.
