This week, our CEO and CMO attended the Virginia General Assembly to advocate for access to evidence-based addiction treatment services across the Commonwealth.

Our team spoke with many legislators, including Senator Otto Wachsmann, representing the 83rd District, to share real-world insights from the front lines of behavioral health care and reinforce the importance of policies that support timely, effective treatment for people and families impacted by substance use. This was a valuable experience and invited meaningful discussions on how we can shape the future of addiction care in Virginia.

We are grateful for leaders who make space to listen and engage on issues that truly save Virginian lives.

The African-American community has contributed greatly to the addiction and mental health community, creating breakthroughs in what we know about addiction science today.

Last year, we spotlighted 6 important figures in the behavioral health field, highlighting the strides in modern addiction medicine and access equity, and we'd like to pay homage to these figures once more.

Without the work of these figures and countless others, dozens of therapy models, research centers, and scientific advancements wouldn't exist today. We thank this community for their efforts in bettering the lives of millions. Read more here: https://mastercenter.com/prominent-black-figures-in-addiction-research-and-psychology/
