Women have played a major role in addiction medicine and research throughout history. To honor their work, last year we spotlighted 5 important female figures in addiction medicine, research, and psychology.

Their efforts have led to some of the biggest organizations and behavioral health models we know of today, and we thank them for their contributions. Without these 5 women and countless more, addiction science wouldn't be what it is today.

Yesterday, our Chief Medical Officer Dr. James Thompson and Chief Executive Officer Anna McKean were back on Virginia’s Capitol Hill, meeting with legislators to discuss substance use disorder and the latest advancements in evidence based treatment.

These conversations are critical. Policy decisions directly impact access to care, funding, and the ability for patients to receive timely, effective treatment in their communities. We are committed to ensuring lawmakers understand what modern outpatient addiction treatment looks like and how it supports long term recovery.
