As we at LifeSpire of Virginia celebrate 80 years of empowering purposeful living for older adults, we recognize that none of the freedoms we enjoy, nor the services we provide, would be possible without the sacrifices of the Americans who have served, fought for, and protected our country.

This Veterans Day, we honor the brave individuals who have given so much in service to our nation. To our residents who served and to all who continue to defend our liberty, we extend our deepest gratitude.

Last Friday, residents at The Glebe came together for their annual Bazaar to support the Benevolent Fund, and what a day it was! From delicious homemade cookies, brownies, and jams to beautiful handcrafted hats, scarves, and festive Christmas ornaments, there was something for everyone.

The silent auction was a highlight, featuring incredible donated items like stunning paintings and hand-carved wooden creations such as toys, cutting boards, and even pens!

Thanks to the hard work and generosity of our residents, volunteers, and supporters, over $5,300 was raised for the Benevolent Fund!

Our benevolent mission provides financial subsidies to eligible residents who, through no fault of their own, have outlived their financial resources. At LifeSpire of Virginia, we’re deeply grateful for our chaplains who bring comfort, community, and a deeper connection to faith across our five communities and programs. Their care and presence support residents, team members, and families in every stage of life.

🎶 We love seeing our communities come together! Recently, the Virginia Baptist Homes Foundation hosted a lively Singo Bingo event at The Chesapeake and Lakewood: a fun way to reconnect with friends and welcome new faces.

These friend-raising events help strengthen the bonds that make LifeSpire of Virginia communities so special, while supporting programs that enhance resident life across our organization.

🎓 Empowering Our Team Through Education 🌟

At LifeSpire of Virginia, we believe in the power of learning and in supporting our team members every step of the way. This year, the Virginia Baptist Homes Foundation awarded over $40,000 in scholarships to 35 incredible recipients, this includes team members, their children or grandchildren pursuing higher education.

🌞 Sizzlin’ Summer Success! 🌞

Last week, The Chesapeake's community came together for the Sizzlin’ Summer Sale, their first-ever yard sale for a great cause, and the results were nothing short of amazing! Thanks to generous donations, enthusiastic shopping, and the hard work of 10–15 dedicated volunteers who sorted, priced, and kept everything running smoothly, we raised $1,225 for the Chesapeake Benevolence Fund! 🙌

But the impact didn’t stop there: we also donated an estimated 200 lbs. of clothing, kitchenware, and miscellaneous items to the Peninsula Rescue Mission Thrift Store. Their team was thrilled to see us arrive with a bus full of unsold treasures!

Since 1946, LifeSpire of Virginia has been committed to shaping the future of aging services, investing in innovation, wellness, and community connection.

That vision continues at The Chesapeake, where we recently broke ground on a brand-new covered pickleball pavilion, a vibrant space for not only fitness, but fellowship and fun.

This project was made possible through the generosity of a resident, Barbara Howell and her late husband David. The Howells shared a deep love for The Chesapeake. By giving back to their community, they envisioned the pavilion as a space for all to connect in fun and friendship. Their legacy will live on in the memories and fellowship that will flourish within its walls. We are also deeply grateful to GC Commercial, our construction partner, who made a significant contribution to bring this vision to life.

This new amenity is only a part of our ongoing effort to create spaces where residents thrive in every stage of retirement. At The Chesapeake and across LifeSpire communities, the groundbreaking never stops, because neither does our commitment to excellence in aging services.
