Wednesday, January 28

Due to icy conditions on side roads, our parking lot, and sidewalks—combined with extremely cold temperatures—our office is closed for in‑person appointments today. The safety of our patients and staff remains our top priority.

Our team is available by phone to assist with any medical needs you may have.

Stay warm, stay safe, and take a moment to check on your neighbors—especially older adults and anyone with special medical or daily‑living needs.

01/25/2026

RVA Healthcare will be closed on Monday, January 26th for the safety of our patients and staff.

Please stay safe and warm during the severe weather. Take a moment to check on your neighbors, especially older adults and those with medical conditions who may need extra support.

☃️Smart & Safe Snow‑Shoveling Tips During a Winter Storm ☃️

❄️Take it Slow:

Shoveling is real physical work, especially in heavy or wet snow.

Pace yourself and take breaks to avoid overexertion.

❄️Warm Up First:

A few minutes of gentle stretching or walking helps loosen muscles.

Cold, tight muscles are more prone to strain.

❄️the Right Shovel:

Lightweight, ergonomic shovels reduce stress on your back.

Smaller shovels help prevent lifting too much snow at once.

❄️Push, Don’t Lift:

Whenever possible, push snow to the side instead of lifting it.

If you must lift, bend your knees and keep your back straight.

❄️Stay Hydrated:

Even in cold weather, your body loses moisture.

Drink water before and after shoveling.

❄️Dress for the Weather:

Wear layers, waterproof gloves, and slip‑resistant boots.

Cover your mouth and nose to warm the air you breathe.

❄️Watch for Ice:

Hidden ice under snow can cause slips and falls.

Spread salt or sand as you go to improve traction.

❄️Clear small amounts at a time:

Shovel periodically during the storm instead of waiting for deep accumulation.

It’s easier on your body and prevents heavy buildup.

❄️Listen to your body:

Stop immediately if you feel chest pain, dizziness, or unusual shortness of breath.

Shoveling can be strenuous, and your health comes first.

❄️🌬️A winter storm is on the way, and your RVA Healthcare snow bunnies want to help you stay safe, warm, and healthy. As the weather changes quickly, take a moment to prepare:

Stay Warm
• Dress in layers and keep extra blankets nearby
• Avoid staying in wet clothing
• Close off unused rooms to conserve heat if power goes out

Prep Your Home
• Charge phones and power banks
• Keep flashlights, batteries, and a basic first‑aid kit handy
• Use space heaters safely — keep them clear of anything flammable

Health & Wellness
• Refill prescriptions before the storm hits
• Keep essential medical items within reach
• Stay hydrated and eat regularly

Food & Supplies
• Stock up on non‑perishable foods and bottled water
• Don’t forget baby or pet supplies if needed

Travel Smart
• Avoid driving unless absolutely necessary
• If you must travel, pack blankets, snacks, and a phone charger

Look Out for Others
• Check in on neighbors, especially older adults or anyone with medical needs

Stay warm, stay prepared, and take good care of yourself. Your RVA Healthcare team is thinking of you as the storm moves in.
