New Podcast Episode!

Listen in on my conversation with Joyee Washington, MS, MPH, CHES® as we discuss our challenges doing community-engaged research, letting go of the researcher ego, and how learning from the experiences of other researchers is crucial in the field.

I’m partnering with her to host a Research Roundtable on 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟳 𝗮𝘁 𝟲𝗽𝗺 𝗖𝗧/𝟳𝗽𝗺 𝗘𝗧 with community engaged researchers sharing community building strategies and how to build trust virtually. This is a great event for everyone from students to senior researchers and anyone interested in community-based research and programs in public health!

Since May is lupus awareness month and Joyee is a lupus warrior, we are offering the roundtable for only $37 until Wednesday, May 26 (the price will go up to $49 after May 26). Just click the link below to register.

I really enjoyed this conversation with Joyee Washington, MS, MPH, CHES® about our experience working with communities and building trust in research. Have you experienced some of the same challenges we’ve faced as community engaged researchers? Have you ever wanted to have a frank discussion with other researchers and pick their brain so you won’t have to keep figuring it out on your own?

We are collaborating to host a Research Roundtable on Thursday, May 27th at 6pmCST/ 7pm EST. Get your questions answered from a group of incredible research panelists. You don’t have to do it alone. You can learn from those who have experience in the field!

Community Advisory Boards (CAB) are crucial to research success. You need community input on developing and implementing the research protocol and disseminating research results to the community. Do not forget to compensate them accordingly for their time and expertise. This includes covering transportation costs, parking vouchers, food, and an honorarium. They should not be expected to do this free of charge.

If you don't have a CAB formed, these are couple of great resources to get you started:

- Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute: https://sc-ctsi.org/resources/developing-a-community-advisory-board-for-research-toolkit

- Newman, S. D., Andrews, J. O., Magwood, G. S., Jenkins, C., Cox, M. J., & Williamson, D. C. (2011). Community advisory boards in community-based participatory research: a synthesis of best processes. Preventing chronic disease, 8(3), A70.

What tips do you have for others that are forming a CAB for the first time?
