We're thrilled to welcome Megan Mason as the newest member of Chase Brexton's Board of Directors!

Megan is currently a Director in the Government Affairs & Public Policy Group at Steptoe, a prominent DC law firm. She excels at navigating complex policy issues, developing strategic communications, and building strong relationships with stakeholders. As a former Group Director at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Megan has an unmatched understanding of the intricacies of federal health plans and the policy and operations of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Megan also served as the Chief of Market Conduct for Life & Health at the Maryland Insurance Administration and assisted with the formation of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange. She has been a featured speaker many times for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and is a former health co-chair on the NAIC MAWG National Analysis project. Megan has her certification in Market Conduct Management and served as co-chair of Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society (IRES) Joint Market Regulation Forum health track courses.

With a strong background in health insurance compliance, ACA implementation, and stakeholder engagement, Megan also brings a local touch as a native of Ellicott City and a longtime Chase Brexton patient. She is married, a mom and step-mom to six kids, and is active in a number of different volunteer organizations ranging from the Boy Scouts of America, to PTSA, to church outreach activities. Throughout her career and volunteer work Megan has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, managing teams, and mentoring others to grow in their skills.

Today is National Stress Day, a good time to practice some square breathing! Also known as box breathing, this technique is a way to slow things down and relax your nervous system.

To practice square breathing, simply use the graphic below! Breathe in for four seconds while following the line along the top of the box, hold that breath for four seconds while following down the right side of the box, release that breath for four seconds along the bottom of the box, then remain exhaled for four seconds along the left side.

In the past few weeks, several of our team members completed marathons! Joining at the Baltimore Running Festival on October 18th, Adam Hertz completed his 1st marathon! Tarsha McFarlin and Daniel McEvily ran in the Marine Corps Marathon on October 26th! Seeing record participation, this marathon celebrated its 50th anniversary. Rakeah Glass traveled to Chicago with a few members of her running group to run the Bank of America Chicago Marathon which, in its 47th year, set a record with over 50,000 participants. "From sharing race-day goals and pre-race nerves to crossing the finish line and celebrating together, it was a weekend to remember, " Rakeah said. This was her fifth marathon and second Abbott World Marathon Major; following Boston in April.
