Did you know this? Early communication milestones are critical! A 12-month-old should be babbling using a variety of consonants, have 1-2 words, understand simple words and phrases like “no” and “come here”, and make meaningful gestures for things they want - like reaching and pointing.

A study from Carson et al., 2013 found that students exposed to a phonological awareness intervention increased the literacy outcomes of children WITH and without language disorders 💃⁣

Up until recently I never really spent a lot of time on phonological awareness with my kids. I figured I was addressing it with their artic/phono therapy, and I was...to a point. Going a bit more in depth with it doesn't take a lot of time but can give a nice boost in progress!⁣

Activities like:⁣

⭐Phoneme Blending⁣
⭐Phoneme Identification⁣
⭐Phoneme segmentation⁣
⁣
can all be exercises to do during therapy. If you have my One Page Articulation activity, you've seen the rhyming section as well as the writing/tracing portion which it great for phoneme identification.⁣
