Just because September is over, doesn’t mean the conversation around su***de prevention should stop.

Awareness and support are needed every single day of the year. Someone you know may be struggling quietly and your kindness, compassion, and willingness to listen can make a difference.

If you or someone you love is in crisis, please know that help is out there. Call or text 988 to connect with the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

You are not alone. đź’š

Let’s keep showing up for each other, this month, and every month.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! đź’š

At Alternatives Counseling, we see firsthand how important mental health is—because we live it every day with our clients. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, navigating depression, processing trauma, or just feeling overwhelmed, know that you’re not alone.

Mental health challenges don’t always look the same, and they don’t always come with warning signs. That’s why awareness matters.

This month, we encourage everyone to check in—with yourself, your friends, your family, and your therapist if you have one. If you don’t, we’re here and ready to support you.

Your mental health is valid. Your healing matters. Let’s keep the conversation going.

If you’re ready to take the next step, reach out.
We’re currently accepting new clients and would be honored to walk alongside you.
*Please note that we may have a wait list depending on age and specific treatment needs.

Give us a call at 618-288-8085 or email us at Office@achelps.org to get started!

10 Things to Leave Behind in 2024:

1. Negative self-talk:
*Replace self-criticism with affirmations and self-compassion
*Practice speaking to yourself as you would a friend

2. Overcommitment
*Let go of the "always having to say yes" mindset
*Enforce boundaries and learn to say "no" without guilt

3. Unhealthy or Toxic Relationships
*Identify relationships that drain your energy or contribute stress and distance yourself from those that don't serve you
*Focus on surrounding yourself with supportive, uplifting people

4. Comparison Trap
*Stop comparing your life to others on social media or elsewhere
*Focus on your own personal growth and achievements instead

5. Perfectionism
*Accept that mistakes are a natural part of life
*Aim for progress, not perfection

6. Neglecting Rest
*Ditch the "hustle culture" mentality
*Prioritize sleep, downtime, and relaxation as essential for mental health well-being

7. Fear of asking for help
*Stop trying to manage everything alone
*Seek professional support, therapy, or lean on trusted loved ones when needed

8. Procrastination of Self-Care
*Avoid waiting for the perfect time to start taking care of yourself
*Build daily routines that prioritize your physical and mental health

9. Guilt over prioritizing yourself
*Release the notion that taking care of yourself is selfish
*Understand that you can't pour from an empty cup

10. Holding onto grudges
*Let go of resentment and grudges that weigh you down
*Practice forgiveness for your own peace of mind
