JAVA ALERT: “Coffee is a language in itself.” — Jackie Chan

Safe Harbor Opened…SHBUCKS! (Yes, You Read That Right!)

Move over, big-name coffee chains—Safe Harbor rolled out its very own pop-up café: SHBucks! Our Safe Harbor lobby was transformed into the coziest little coffee spot you’ve ever seen, complete with coffee, hot chocolate, and hot apple cider served by our very own superstar barista. Add in some mouthwatering baked treats, and suddenly nobody wanted to leave the lobby… wonder why? 😉

And what’s a coffeehouse without live entertainment? Lucky for us, Resident, Angelo Stanco, showed up ready to slay on the accordion. He played his heart out, dazzled the crowd, and watched his tip cup fill up.

Our Safe Harbor Director, Erica, who’s been rocking life at The Regency for 24 years, stepped into the spotlight as our barista! And let’s just say… Erica, we adore you, but please don’t quit your day job. We need you here! Still, you absolutely melted our hearts and had us grinning from ear to ear.

SHBucks: Hands down...100/10!. ☕✨

We are deeply grateful for the quick thinking and courage shown by our Wellness Assistant, Mirella. When one of our residents began choking on a piece of chicken, Mirella didn’t hesitate for a moment.

Though half his size, she immediately stepped in and performed the Heimlich maneuver. On the third thrust, the food was dislodged, and the resident—and his tablemates—were able to breathe a sigh of relief.

In moments when some may freeze or step back, Mirella ran straight toward the emergency with determination and compassion. Her bravery and calm presence made all the difference.

We are so proud to have her on our team, and we extend our heartfelt thanks for her outstanding care and dedication.

ALL SHOOK UP ALERT: “Do something worth remembering.” - Elvis

As a special treat for Jack Drinane’s 85th Birthday, his daughters, Kat and Beth, wanted to give their dad something so unforgettable that even The King himself would say, “Thank you, thank you very much.” With the help of The Regency, Elvis actually entered the building—and surprised their parents!

Now, Jack and his lovely wife, Barbara, who already have everything: wisdom, charm, good looks, and decades of dance moves that put the rest of us to shame.

The residents couldn’t believe it—one person swore they’d been transported straight back to the1960s!

To top it all off, our awesome team whipped up milkshakes, because nothing says “We’re partying like it’s 1956” quite like ice cream, whipped cream, and the faint hope of fitting into your high-school letterman jacket again. Check out our amazing team led by Annmarie- thank you for making the day even more special!!

Happy 85th Birthday, Jack! Thank you for sharing your birthday gift with all of us! You look fantastic—so fantastic that Elvis wasn’t sure who the real star of the show was. 🎉🎸🕺💙

As most of you know, Stella Shank, our Executive Director, and Erica Ferrara, our Safe Harbor Director are SISTERS! Their mom, Helen, worked at The Regency more than 20 years ago—and her love for our community is still going strong.

In honor of our residents, Mama Helen aka Eleni knitted two dolls for The Regency. We named them MR. & MRS. REGENCY and they are proudly standing in Stella's office. Stop by and see her beautiful work!

Today, we bid a fond farewell to our wonderful Recreation Assistant, Liam, as he takes a leap of faith and crosses the big pond to begin an exciting new chapter in Scotland!

Liam has accepted his dream job working in Educational Services at the Glasgow Museum Resource Center and The Burrell Collection. The Resource Center supplies and rotates artwork and collections throughout the museum — a perfect fit for Liam’s passion for history, art, and education.

He and his wife (and their cute cat, too!) are making the big move together, and we couldn’t be happier for them. As Liam said, “I will miss you all and thank you for the memories — I had so much fun, and every day was a new adventure at The Regency that I'll never forget!”

Stella reassured residents that you never know — Annmarie might just plan a trip to Scotland to visit him! To help Liam start his new adventure in style, we sent him off with a few special gifts to begin his Scottish gear collection.

Liam, we’ll miss your energy, creativity, and laughter, but we are so proud of you. Best wishes and safe travels — you will always be part of our Regency family!

WE SALUTE YOU ALERT: "The willingness of America’s veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude." — Jeff Miller

This Veterans Day was truly special as we gathered to honor 13 of our amazing residents who proudly served in every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. The room was filled with gratitude and pride as we celebrated their courage, dedication, and the sacrifices they made for our country.

A big thank-you to Mayor Pam, Deputy Mayor Donna and Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton for joining us and recognizing each veteran with a special proclamation. Their kind words and presence made the day even more meaningful.

We were also deeply moved by Gaitley Stevenson-Matthews’ beautiful rendition of “God Bless America,” which had everyone teary-eyed. Thank you to the Executive Board of Tribute and Honor Foundation for attending.

After the ceremony, our veterans shared heartfelt stories of friendship, service, and gratitude — continuing the conversation over a delicious luncheon prepared by Chef Pat, who made sure every detail was perfect.

It was a wonderful day of reflection, connection, and community — a heartfelt reminder of how lucky we are to have these heroes among us.

What a heartwarming celebration we had for Barbara Tassa!

Barbara first joined us at The Regency for a short three-month stay while recovering from a hospitalization. During that time, she brought warmth and kindness to everyone she met. After returning home, Barbara made a wonderful recommendation—for her granddaughter, Hailey, to join our Recreation Department...and what a recommendation it was! Hailey has been a shining star ever since, filling our community with laughter, energy, and joy.

Just two months ago, Barbara decided to make The Regency her permanent home returned back.

“How special that I get to see my granddaughter every day! I love living at The Regency,” Barbara shared with a smile. To celebrate Barbara’s return, her neighbors of 50 years, her daughters, and of course, Hailey, joined us for a lovely housewarming soiree in her honor. Chef Pat prepared a delicious luncheon in our private dining room.

The highlight of the afternoon came when Barbara turned the tables and surprised Hailey—presenting her with The Regency’s November Employee of the Month Award during lunch in the dining room for all to see.

It was a beautiful moment filled with pride, family, and community—just what The Regency is all about. ❤️

The Regency is truly blessed to be home to so many grandparents, great-grandparents, and even great-great-grandparents!

We were delighted to celebrate a truly special moment with resident, Rita Bassett, who recently met her great-grandson, Hudson, for the very first time. The visit brought smiles, laughter, and even a few happy tears as four generations came together to share stories, hugs, and cherished memories.

Seeing Rita hold baby Hudson was a beautiful reminder of the lasting bonds that connect families across the years. Moments like these highlight the importance of love, legacy, and togetherness—values we see every day in our community. We are so grateful to Rita and her family for allowing us to share in such a heartwarming milestone.

Safe Harbor residents and staff turned this Halloween into a candy-coated celebration to remember! The community came together for a colorful and creative theme — M&M’s everywhere! Everyone of our 33 residents proudly wore bright M&M shirts, filling the room with color and cheer. Staff members got into the spirit too, dressing as “Candy Security” to keep all those sweet treats safe!

Adding to the fun, Safe Harbor Director, Erica Ferrara, delighted everyone by dressing up as a piñata, spreading laughter and smiles throughout the day. The Safe Harbor dining room was transformed into a true Candyland, complete with festive decorations, sweet treats, and plenty of dancing.

Congratulations to our favorite pinata, Erica, for celebrating 24 years working at The Regency! We adore you and your spirit! &Ms M&M'S USA

The Regency residents enjoyed a spook-tacular Halloween party filled with laughter, music, and ghoulishly good snacks! Both staff and residents got into the spirit by dressing up in impressive costumes. Our creative Recreation Director, Annmarie, and her awesome team delighted everyone with their whimsical Peter Pan theme — a true crowd favorite! The Regency was truly transformed this Halloween. The team brought the colorful costumes, creative decorations, and plenty of smiles. From Peter Pan to Captain Hook, the details were simply enchanting! It was a day of festive fun, sweet treats, and wonderful memories shared by all.
