Dear Friends of GEYFCS,

Every year we send out a letter in the fall asking you to give to GEYFCS. Why? Because your donations are critical to our mission of providing low-cost and free mental health care to the broader Glen Ellyn community.

The impact that services have on our clients is life-changing. As a result of services through GEYFCS a client was able to accomplish a life-milestone that had been a challenge for a while. From one of our clinicians:

“A client of mine was struggling with PTSD after the loss of her father. Her anxiety played itself out in many forms especially hair pulling and anxiousness with driving. She was pulling her hair so badly that she started to go bald in a few areas. She recently came to our session and finally had her hair down. She was swaying it
back and forth to show off how long her hair had gotten. She couldn't have felt prouder of herself and all the work she put into making this positive change. Also, she kept making one excuse after another about getting her drivers license. Through a lot of work, she finally obtained her drivers license at the age of 21. What a big accomplishment for her as this makes her
more independent and able to either get a job or attend college due to having the means to get to both.”

YOUR donations—along with grants and in-kind gifts —have made a HUGE impact on our small agency and
have allowed us to:

● Provide 879 counseling hours (2024-2025)
● Provide services to clients with incomes at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (this makes up
on average 75% of our clients)
● Partner with many layers in the community including; the Glen Ellyn Public Library, GE Schools, GPS Parent Series

BUT there’s still more to do. Our country continues to experience a mental health crisis, especially among our
young people. Here’s what you can do to help us address the mental health crisis in our own community:

● Break the stigma. Talk about mental health. Talking about su***de doesn’t make someone suicidal.
● Share resources, such as information about GEYFCS, the DuPage County Crisis Center 630-627-
1700 (available 24/7, 365 days per year), and the 988 national hotline.
● Follow the Glenbard Parent Series. Watch their excellent, supportive, and free programs (gps.org).
● Donate. No gift is too small. You can donate via our website at geyfcs.org, use the QR code below, or
mail your check to the office. Your donations allow us to provide counseling to those who would
otherwise be unable to afford it. GEYFCS never refuses a client because of an inability to pay.

There are many ways you can support GEYFCS to ensure we are able to continue serving the broader Glen Ellyn Community. Here is how you can help:

● Make a donation through our online donation link (https://www.paypal.com/donate/?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=EHVUHLD4UP8CJ&source=url&ssrt=1761399695855).
● Email executivedirector@geyfcs.org to make sure you are on our e-newsletter distribution list.
● Keep an eye out for our upcoming events that support GEYFCS.

Your support and commitment to the mission of Glen Ellyn Youth and Family Counseling Services means so
much, THANK YOU!

Thank you for your support,

GEYFCS Board of Directors

More about us...

Glen Ellyn Youth & Family Counseling Service (GEYFCS.org) is a small community-based, not-for-profit mental health agency that provides professional counseling to local area youth and families, serving the community for over 30 years. We offer individual counseling to youth and adults, family counseling, couples counseling, and school consultation. Our services are available to those living in the attendance areas of Glen Ellyn public schools.

Our goal is to make mental health services more widely accessible for everyone, regardless of economic status. No one is ever denied counseling because of an inability to pay. We are one of the only remaining local counseling agencies that can see individuals within 24-48 hours of their first intake call. There's no wait list for families in crisis. Nearly 80% of families seen at GEYFCS have incomes at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. Seventy- eight percent of our professional counseling services from the 2019/20 fiscal year were for children, adolescents, and their families.

Now, more than ever, our community needs to make sure mental health care is available to everyone. It is not surprising that the CDC is reporting an increase in mental health problems associated with the pandemic, especially among younger people. Our own clients are feeling isolated and alone. For some, their families are facing unemployment and worrying about basic necessities such as being able to provide food and housing. Young people and their parents are challenged by virtual learning, and we are seeing increases in family conflict, domestic abuse, and neglect. Our therapists are connecting clients to needed support services but also, when necessary, providing immediate assistance when community resources are not readily available. GEYFCS' Response to Coronavirus Closures: GEYFCS is meeting with clients via telephone or video sessions during established operating hours. We are accepting new clients. For more information, contact Deanna Filkins, GEYFCS Executive Director, at geyfcs@outlook.com or (630) 469-3040. In case of an emergency, call 911 or the Dupage Crisis Hotline (630) 627-1700.
