Solstice Reminder from Laura Listens

As we arrive at the still point of the year, I’m feeling this invitation deeply:

Slow down.
Rest.
Simplify.
Reconnect.

These winter months aren’t about pushing or forcing answers. They’re about creating space… the kind of inner space where clarity can gently rise on its own.

If you’re feeling tired, tender, or unsure of your next step, you’re not behind. You’re right on time. This is the season to listen inward, tend to your nervous system, and let yourself be held by quiet.

When spring comes, momentum will return. For now, your only job is to soften. 🌙

At Laura Listens, we honor this rhythm of rest and renewal through compassionate therapy, mindful movement, and heart-centered support. You don’t have to carry it all alone.

What are you being invited to release this season?

-Laura

Today I’m feeling especially grateful. This year has been full of growth, unexpected blessings, and the kind of community that reminds me we’re not meant to do this life alone.

I’m thankful for the people who show up with open hearts.
For the families we create, not just the ones we’re born into.
For the moments of chaos mixed with laughter, the little hands tugging at us, and the quiet moments of peace we carve out for ourselves.

I’m grateful for the women who gather, support each other, and hold each other through the hard and beautiful things.
For the clients who trust me with their stories and let me be part of their healing.
For every teacher, friend, and soul who has walked beside me this year. You’ve shaped me more than you know.

And I’m grateful for the reminders that even in the messy, imperfect moments we’re growing. We’re learning. We’re becoming.

Wishing you a Thanksgiving filled with connection, warmth, and a deep sense of being supported by the people around you and by the life you’re building.

Happy Thanksgiving 🤍🦃

College can feel like a lot, even when everything looks “fine” on the outside.

If you’ve been juggling classes, relationships, family expectations, or trying to figure out who you are right now, you don’t have to sort through it alone.

Carrie, our therapist who specializes in supporting teens and college-age young adults, offers a grounded, welcoming space to talk through things like:
• Anxiety or feeling overwhelmed
• Academic or life transitions
• Identity and sexuality exploration
• Body image concerns or eating struggles
• Stress from family, friendships, or relationships

Her approach is calm, compassionate, and easy to connect with. She helps you make sense of what you’re feeling, understand your patterns, and feel more steady in your day-to-day life.

Carrie sees clients in person in Naperville or virtually — whatever helps you feel the most comfortable.

We accept:
• BCBS PPO
• Aetna PPO
• United Healthcare PPO

Thankful!

Research shows that practicing gratitude can help reduce anxiety by shifting how the brain responds to stress. Gratitude supports emotional regulation, softens anxious thought patterns, and increases your ability to stay present. It can even lower cortisol and boost feel good neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin.

When you practice gratitude consistently, you begin to see life through a more hopeful lens. The nervous system settles. The mind feels lighter. Over time, the brain learns to look for what is supportive and steady instead of what is threatening.

A simple gratitude practice can be one of the most grounding tools you use.

What are you thankful for today?

Today felt like such a gift. Every Friday we gather as moms with our little ones, but today had a different kind of magic. One of the moms opened her home and we created our own Thanksgiving together. Kids running everywhere, food on every surface, noise, laughter, someone crying in one corner, someone laughing in another. It was messy and sweet and so real.

Before we ate, I gathered all the children and started singing:

We are circling circling together
We are singing singing our heartsong
This is family this is unity
This is celebration this is sacred

Standing there with all those little faces looking up and all the women around us holding babies, sharing stories, checking in on one another, I felt this huge wave of gratitude.

I am so lucky to have this community of women who get it. Women who show up for each other. Women who understand the need for connection and support, not just for our kids but for ourselves as mothers.

I feel honored to be part of this circle. The loud parts, the tender parts, the chaotic parts, the moments that make your heart swell. I feel so blessed to be held by a group of women who care this deeply.

Overthinking. Racing thoughts. Trouble focusing. That tight feeling in your chest when anxiety shows up out of nowhere.

Kundalini yoga can actually help your mind settle in a really grounded way.

Here’s how:

It interrupts the mental spiral
Breathwork in Kundalini (like Breath of Fire or long deep breathing) shifts your nervous system fast. It pulls you out of looping thoughts and back into your body.

It gives your brain something to do
For ADHD-type symptoms, rhythm + movement + breath work together create a channel for excess energy. It helps your brain focus without forcing it.

It calms the emotional center of the brain
Many movements stimulate the vagus nerve and clear tension stored in the chest. That lowers anxiety, softens emotional overwhelm, and helps you feel safe again.

It builds inner steadiness
With consistent practice, your baseline changes. You start noticing you’re less reactive, more clear, and able to pause before spiraling.

If you’ve been feeling scattered, overstimulated, or stuck in your head, Kundalini can be a really supportive practice.

Your breath is right there whenever you need it. Let it help you come home to yourself.

Many ways to try a class, reach out to see what fits your lifestyle.

What brings you joy these days?
For me, it’s the little moments soft eyes, wagging tails, fresh air, and anything that reminds me to slow down and breathe.

Share something that’s been bringing light into your life lately. I’d love to hear. 🤍🐾

While everyone in the family is affected, the way divorce impacts adults and kids can look very different. Understanding these differences can help families navigate the transition with empathy, patience, and hope.

There are days like today that I wish I could sit and ponder and breathe and move without any time constraints and then I’m reminded that all things are like a Kriya all things begin and end start and stop expand and retract just like our seasons just like our relationships just like our minds.

Enjoying this nurturing moment
