Remember: It’s not about saying the perfect thing, but about showing compassion, being present, and letting them know they’re not alone. ✨

Honoring Our Veterans
On this Veterans Day, we pause to honor the men and women who have bravely served our country with courage, dedication, and love of freedom. Their sacrifices have given us the opportunities and freedoms we hold dear.
At Whitting Funeral Home, we are proud to support veterans and their families, not only by recognizing their service, but also by helping them access the burial benefits they have earned through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

These benefits may include:
✔️ Burial in a VA national cemetery
✔️ A government-issued headstone or marker
✔️ A burial flag and Presidential Memorial Certificate
✔️ Military funeral honors with the folding and presentation of the U.S. flag
✔️ Financial assistance for funeral, burial, or transportation costs

Our staff is here to guide families through the process, assist with the necessary forms, and ensure every veteran is laid to rest with dignity and respect.

Did you know Glen Head wasn’t always called Glen Head?
In the mid-1600s, early settlers referred to this area as Cedar Swamp because of the abundance of cedar trees that once covered the land. Nearly two centuries later, in 1865, the arrival of the Long Island Rail Road established the local station as the “head of the rails,” giving rise to the name Glen Head.
From those early beginnings, Glen Head grew from a quiet rural settlement into the welcoming residential community we know today. While nearby hamlets such as Glenwood Landing and Greenvale developed their own distinct identities, Glen Head retained its unique charm, shaped by historic homes, natural beauty, and a strong sense of community.
Today, Glen Head remains a special part of Nassau County’s North Shore — a place where history and heritage continue to shine.

🎀 National Mammography Day 🎀
Each year, the third Friday of October is recognized as National Mammography Day, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month — a special reminder of the importance of early detection.
At Whitting Funeral Home, we stand with survivors, those currently fighting, and the families who have been touched by breast cancer. 💖
Today, we encourage everyone to schedule a mammogram or remind a loved one to do so. Early detection truly saves lives.
Together, we can continue to spread awareness, hope, and care within our community.

Today, we take a moment to honor the lives gone too soon and the families who carry the love and grief of pregnancy and infant loss.

This day reminds us that even the briefest lives leave lasting imprints on our hearts. To every parent and family walking this journey, please know that you are not alone, your love matters, and your grief is seen.

At Whitting Funeral Home, we stand with all who are remembering, grieving, and holding space for the little ones who will never be forgotten.

Burial or Cremation?
When planning a service, families are often faced with this important decision. Both options are meaningful, and the choice depends on personal values, traditions, and wishes.
Here are some similarities and differences to consider:

Similarities
✔️ Both can include a meaningful memorial or religious service
✔️ Both provide opportunities for family and friends to gather and remember
✔️ Both honor and respect the life of your loved one
✔️ Can be personalized to reflect individual wishes

Burial
⚰️ Permanent resting place for loved ones to visit
⚰️ Often connected to faith and family traditions
⚰️ Involves a cemetery plot, headstone, or mausoleum

Cremation
🕊️ flexibility in timing and type of service
🕊️ Remains can be kept, scattered, or buried

There is no “better” option, only the one that feels right for you and your family. At Whitting Funeral Home, we are here to guide and support you every step of the way.

Why Consider Pre-Planning a Funeral?
Pre-planning means making funeral arrangements in advance, thoughtfully outlining your wishes so they are known and honored. It can be as simple as choosing between a burial or cremation, or as detailed as selecting the music, readings, and religious elements of your service.
Some benefits include:
✔️ Reducing emotional stress on family during a difficult time
✔️ Ensuring your personal preferences are respected
✔️ Helping manage costs and avoid unexpected financial burden
✔️ Allowing loved ones to focus on healing and remembrance rather than logistics
