3 types of surgeons:
1. Slow and bad
2. Fast and bad
3. Fast and good

I think everyone who has done surgical training has heard this at one point. I might be one of the few to disagree.

Slow doesn’t always mean inefficient. Slow doesn’t always mean you don’t know what you’re doing. Slow can be redoing a suture. Slow can mean an extra check for bleeding. Slow can mean a couple extra minutes to even out a liposuctioned area. The problem is that those minutes can add up and make a case “slow”. But to imply slow is bad, in my mind, is incorrect.

Came in asking for a tummy tuck… but needed a lower body lift instead?

After major weight loss, loose skin often extends beyond the abdomen to the hips and thighs. Sometimes a regular tummy tuck doesn’t cut it and not everyone will accept the Fleur de lis vertical scar.

Lower body lift/circumferential abdominoplasty + buttock fat transfer after gastric sleeve and 70 lb weight loss

Let’s highlight a couple things

1️⃣ Belly button - it doesn’t have to look fake or “stuck on” with no contour and a visible scar

2️⃣ Fat transfer to the buttock - a safe and great addition to a lower body lift in the right person and right hands

3️⃣ Visible scars - despite what many may think, if placed correctly these scars can fall in an excellent position that can be hidden by most clothes

My favorite part is actually number two. Most of the time lower body lifts will improve the shape of the buttock, but will lead to some flattening. On the side profile, you can see that the projection of the buttock has improved in addition to the shape.

Boomerang thigh lift and liposuction after gastric sleeve and 100 lb weight loss

The boomerang is a great technique because corrects loose skin in 2 directions without creating a T point (which is prone to incision breakdown)

At three months out, the scars are starting to fade but they are going to continue to fade a good amount more over the next 12 months

Liposuction is a must with these procedures since it improves the outcomes and reduces the risk of complications by helping preserve nerves, blood vessels, lymphatics, and connective tissue
