When we experience trauma, adversity and hardship it is common to develop self-preservatatory behaviors to protect ourselves from harm.

As we learn to let go of these behaviors, we may experience increased feelings of shame and guilt.

I invite you to challenge that shame by extending compassion to yourself. At some point in your life, these behaviors were what you needed to keep yourself safe.
