Intern Spotlight | Meet Justice, our Practicum Student at our Glendale Office!

Q: What drew you to the field?
My AP Psychology class in high school! I always knew I wanted to help people in a clinical setting, but had trouble narrowing down exactly how until junior year of high school. Psychology was one of the biggest subjects I could get lost in for hours, and with the impact stress has on one's wellbeing, I loved the idea of helping someone's mental health improve. It felt like the cornerstone of a healthy life.

Q: What was your favorite part of your master's program?
I'm still finishing up my program, but so far, my favorite part has been a combination of the diagnosis and treatment, psychopharmacology, and research courses. I'm pretty proud of the papers and research I've written for these classes, and got an idea for a future thesis if I pursue my doctorate!

Q: Where do you look forward to working?
I'm still exploring and navigating the exact setting I'd want to work in, but I hope to reach a diverse demographic of people in the SoCal area.

Q: One thing you hope to learn or take away from your time with Counseling4Kids?
I hope to build the confidence to deliver services for a wide array of presenting problems.

Q: Fun Fact?
I like sprinting more than running long distances. I used to do hurdles and relays!

Justice is an absolute JOY! We are so honored to have her as apart of our team and seeing her play a role in our clients' healing journeys. Make sure to tell her hi next time you see her!

Today, we honor the bravery of those who served. But let’s also remember: battles don’t always end on the battlefield. This Veterans Day, let’s stand up for veterans' mental health — because healing is a journey, and no one should walk it alone.
Our offices will be closed today in observance.

Sometimes, progress is a whispered ‘I’m okay’, a shared feeling, or a calm breath in a storm of big emotions. These are the wins we don’t always see — but they matter more than words can say. Grateful for these little signs of healing. 🌱

🎃 Happy Halloween! 👻
Witches, ghosts, and goblins? Kinda spooky.
🧠 Big feelings and anxious thoughts? Also spooky—but totally normal. So tonight, wear your costume, eat some candy, and remember: Even monsters need mental health check-ins. 🧡💀✨
Take a breath, be kind to your mind, and have a fang-tastic night!

Intern Spotlight | Meet Arevik, our Practicum Student at our Glendale Office!

Q: What drew you to the field?
I believe in the power of therapy to help change lives for the better, and I was drawn to the field because I always had a passion of helping others navigate life’s challenges

Q: What was your favorite part of your master’s program?
My favorite part of my master’s program has been learning all of the different theoretical orientations, and making meaningful connections with my peers. I have also learned a lot about myself as an individual and used my time to invest my knowledge and skills in my personal growth as well.

Q: Where do you look forward to working someday?
I look forward to working in community mental health and eventually opening my own private practice where I can serve families, couples, and children

Q: One thing you hope to learn or take away from your time with Counseling4Kids?
I hope to strengthen my clinical skills in working with children with trauma and gain confidence in applying evidence-based interventions in real-world settings.

Q: A fun fact about yourself?
Fun fact about me is I have a golden retriever who loves going on long hikes and runs with me!

We are filled with so much gratitude for having Arevik join our team, and we know our clients feel the same way! Make sure to say hi when you see her around the office!

Mantras give your mind something steady to hold onto when everything feels out of control. Here’s a few calming words that can slow the spiral and bring you back to the present.🧘‍♀️🌀

“I am safe in this moment.”
– Reminds you that the danger is in your thoughts, not your surroundings.

“These are just thoughts, not facts.”
– Helps separate yourself from the mental storm.

“I’ve felt this before, and I made it through.”
– Validates your strength and resilience.

“One breath at a time. One moment at a time.”
– Brings your focus to the present.

Remember, you're not alone! You got this!

🌟 What’s the Difference Between Real and Not-So-Real Fears?

We all feel scared sometimes—and that’s okay! But did you know there are two kinds of fears?
🛑 Real (Rational) Fears
These are fears that make sense because they help keep us safe.
👉 Example: Feeling scared when crossing a busy street without an adult. That’s your brain helping you stay careful!
😨 Not-So-Real (Irrational) Fears
These are fears that feel big, even if there’s not really any danger.
👉 Example: Being super scared of a balloon popping or a tiny bug that can’t hurt you.
🧠 Your Brain Means Well!
Sometimes, your brain just gets a little too protective. It’s like a fire alarm going off when there’s no fire—loud, scary, but not actually dangerous.
💬 Tip: When you're scared, ask yourself: “Is this something that can really hurt me, or is my brain just trying to keep me extra safe?”
