"When recovering from trauma in which others had a hand in inflicting your pain, it makes sense to want an apology or even an acknowledgement of the harm that was caused. In some cases, this does happen and a lot of healing and growth can come of it.

Many times you won’t ever get this acknowledgement because of factors involving the other person that you could probably guess, but can’t know for sure. The good news is that your healing is not contingent upon an apology or an acknowledgment from another person.

Without ever getting an apology:
You can still grieve.
You can still grow.
You can still experience joy.

They may have had a hand in your pain, but they don’t get to dictate your healing."

Healing from trauma is a journey. It’s unlearning + relearning new ways of existing. It’s a lifelong process of discovery that leads to true, deep transformation. It requires your daily participation.

1. HOW TO BE CONSCIOUS: Most of us are living an unconscious life of habits from our past. We’re rarely present, because at some point the present moment was not safe— so we exist in autopilot. Learning to be conscious allows us to become aware of our thoughts, patterns, + behaviors. This allows us to make new choices in alignment with who we actually are.

2. HOW TO BREATHE: Trauma is stored in the body + impacts how we breathe. Most of us are doing shallow “chest” breathing OR holding our breath (as you become more + more conscious you’ll notice this) which leads to nervous system dysregulation. For more on breathwork check out my YouTube channel (link in bio.)

3. HOW TO MEDITATE/SIT WITH THOUGHTS: Unresolved trauma creates a distracted mind + uncomfortable sensations in the body. We consistently try to avoid our own mind + body through substances, social media, relationships: anything that takes us away from our inner world. Learning to meditate/sit with self is a practice we can do in small amounts each day.

4. HOW TO PAUSE BEFORE REACTING: takes practice + being fully conscious. It’s where all your power lies.

5. HOW TO TRUST YOUR OWN WORD: create ONE small promise (that takes under 10 minutes) + complete it every single day for 30 days. Then, add another. This is the path to restoring self trust.

6. HOW TO REGULATE YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM: Our nervous system is impacted from the trauma we face. We can go into hyper vigilance or shut down which leaves us “stuck” in repetitive cycles. Nervous system regulation includes: grounding techniques, breathing, movement, connection with nature, etc. Awareness of your nervous system + how it’s responding is key.

7. When trauma occurs, there’s always a lack of boundaries or a boundary violation. Learning your own needs + limits, then holding boundaries around them is key to healing from our past
