As this month comes to a close, let’s remember that October is breast cancer awareness month. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers that affect women only second to skin cancer. Men can also develop breast cancer however it is much more common in women. Advances in the field of oncology with improved screening modalities and early detection in addition to better treatment have insured that there is more than an eighty percent survival and cure rate.
Many women who are diagnosed with breast cancer are in their reproductive years and some of the therapies that are commonly used to treat breast cancer can damage reproductive potential. The field of oncofertility has evolved to address the reproductive needs of individuals with cancers who are facing treatments that can potentially damage their fertility potential.
Women with cancer who are in their reproductive years should consult with their oncologist and their reproductive endocrinology and infertility specialist on the potential impact their treatment may have in fertility as well as options to preserve their fertility. Common options include egg freezing, embryo freezing and for men s***m freezing. Ovarian and testicular tissue freezing and fertility sparing surgeries are other options as well.
Knowledge is power and on this occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage all to follow the guidelines to minimize risk factors, to have the proper periodic diagnostic tests to ensure early detection which will ultimately lead to high cure and survival rates.

It was an honor to share my expertise on Innovations in Reproductive Medicine during the 22nd Annual CME Conference of the AAMS in Las Vegas, NV. We discussed the latest advances in In vitro fertilization (IVF), Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT), Fertility Preservation and the use of time lapse embryoscopy and artificial intelligence in IVF with a full house of colleagues and healthcare professionals. It has also been an honor to serve at the Chairman of the CME committee and am thankful of all the speakers for sharing their knowledge as well as the committee who worked tirelessly to ensure a very productive and informative weekend.

World IVF Day is celebrated on 25th July each year. The day serves as both a scientific milestone and a symbol of progress in addressing infertility through advanced biomedical research. IVF represents decades of interdisciplinary collaboration, drawing from embryology, endocrinology, genetics, and clinical practice. On World IVF Day, academic and medical communities reflect on the evolution of assisted reproductive technologies (ART), examine ongoing ethical considerations, and explore the future potential of fertility science. It is a day to recognise the impact that rigorous research and innovation continue to have on individual lives and global reproductive health. I am proud and deeply grateful to be a part of this amazing community. I am especially moved by seeing the results of the hard work and dedication when my patients’ dreams of starting a family and becoming parents are realized. Wishing you all Happy IVF Day and a blessed weekend. Cheers.
