Today is World Psoriasis Day.
When I was a teenager I developed psoriasis. Big flakes of skin coming off my body, especially on my head. I saw several doctors who either did nothing or gave me some kind of oil to put on it. I had nice long hair that now just looked greasy. Kids at school started to make fun of me.
One day I had had enough. I went home after school, found some scissors, and cut it all off, see the picture. I kept one lock...
I dealt with psoriasis for decades to varying degrees. It seemed to fluctuate with the amount of stress I was under. I saw some more doctors on occasion that told me it's autoimmune, I could take immune suppressing drugs. I didn’t want to do that so I just dealt with it.
Today I know there's a lot more that goes into that. Yes, it's autoimmune. AND there is a reason for the autoimmunity. I did the testing, changed my lifestyle and the psoriasis is nearly non-existent. I say nearly because I think I had a tiny spot a few months ago but that could have been just psoriasis PTSD (for lack of a better word).
If you’ve been told “there’s nothing you can do,” don’t buy it. There’s always a reason, and once you find it, healing starts to happen.
