If you planned to "catch up" on sleep this weekend, sadly, it doesn't really work that way! A recent paper in Current Biology shows that our sleep doesn't like to be moved around. Researchers found that subjects who cut their sleep down by five hours during the week, but made up for it on the weekend with extra sleep, still paid a cost. That cost included measurable differences: excess calorie intake after dinner, reduced energy expenditure, increased weight, and detrimental changes in how the body uses insulin.

Cutting blue light exposure before bedtime has been touted a lot lately, but new research says to block ALL light sources (not just blue light) when it’s actually time for bed. Plus, and this will be a challenge in AZ, but keeping your room at a cool 65° to 68° Fahrenheit, limiting intermittent noise (turn off those phone notifications) and adhering to roughly the same sleep and wake times daily will ensure you get QUALITY sleep your body needs.
