Acknowledging our own imperfections and modeling appropriate ways of dealing with our emotions is an essential part of parenting.

Here’s how to hit “reset” when you’re having a bad day with your kids. (Motherly)

Do-overs are verbal acknowledgments of situations gone awry with a request for remediation. Put simply, they are requests for grace.

👉Good question, right?⁣

There are so many areas feelings of inadequacy can root. Comparisons with friends or with social media. Listening to that inner "mean girl" who tells you that you don't measure up. That quick stop at the drive-thru when you "should" be feeding yourself or your kids the newest, extraordinarily healthy diet that's all the rage. ⁣

It's easy to feel like you aren't doing enough in our hyper-aware, all-or-nothing culture.⁣

Today, rather than hyper-focusing on your weaknesses (real OR imaginary), take time to acknowledge and affirm the areas of strength in your life. ⁣✨

⁉ I’m often asked about the impact of traumatic experiences on the brain.

People wonder why it is that these memories are so much more vivid and impactful compared to mundane, or even “happy” memories. 🧠 Brain research now shows us that we actually store these memories differently.

How Trauma Affects The Brain 👇

How trauma affects the brain: it activates our “fight or flight” (limbic system) response. These memories are literally stored differently in the brain.

One topic we cover repeatedly in our Empowerment Groups is how to identify what OVERCROWDS our thoughts.⁣

School responsibilities, future decisions on the horizon, comparison, and past regrets top the list.⁣

Then we looked at HOW these thoughts contribute to feelings of stress, WHERE we feel them in our bodies, and what emotional reactions come up when we experience these sensations.⁣

For those of you who are raising teens (or who remember being teens yourselves), you won't be surprised to hear that often these physical stress responses are closely tied with feelings of anger and anxiety.⁣

Today in Group, we're covering WHY this FIGHT or FLIGHT response is necessary for our survival, and how we can calm it down when it's working against us!⁣

Are you an "over-committer?" ⁣

Ask yourself: Are you saying "yes" out of Fear, Obligation, or Guilt, or out of Excitement and Joy in giving of your time and of yourself? ⁣

When we say "yes" to one thing, we are saying inevitably saying "no" to something else that requires our time and energy. ⁣

✨ Make sure that your commitments keep you seeing clear and out of the FOG 💕⁣
