Experts agree that anxiety is largely genetic and tends to run in families.
While efforts to shield your kids from your personal struggles seems wise, they are much more than we think. If you struggle with anxiety, the best thing you can do for your kids is MODEL good self-care, effective coping skills, and SHOW how you WORK THROUGH your anxiety✨

To be sure, severe anxiety can be debilitating. But for many people who experience it at more moderate levels, it can be helpful. The key is to learn to embrace and reframe it.

📝 I loved learning the Myers Briggs Personality Assessment in Grad School (the beginning of my career in psychology was deeply involved in testing). The Myers Briggs is a series of questions designed to identify a person's personalty type, strengths, and overall preferences.
It's "freakishly" accurate, as this link says.
FUN SUGGESTION: Take this 8 minute quiz, as a family building activity. The results include information about your strengths and "growth points", communication style, career advice and overarching way you interact with others. 💡

✨ Elevate Spotlight✨
Hello! My name is Hannah!
As a clinical intern, I work with tweens, teens, and adults providing individual counseling. The teen years are full of so much growth and change. I love assisting adolescents in adopting skills to improve their daily lives. I also have experience working with young adults struggling to adjust to the demands and unexpected shifts in life.
I believe that creating a healing and emotionally responsive environment best allows my clients to feel empowered and supported. I work collaboratively with those I support to recognize their strengths and abilities through a combination of cognitive-behavioral, existential, and strengths-based techniques. A feeling of connection is imperative in this work. I aspire to form trusting, meaningful, and nonjudgmental therapeutic relationships in my role as a clinician.
And as an intern my services are offered at a reduced rate, making me an excellent option for those needing support but who may find it financially challenging to work with one of Elevate's fully licensed counselors.

"There's growing speculation in psychological research circles that our collective digital hoarding of countless pics, video clips and emails may produce some of the same negative effects as the real-world hoarding of old newspapers, expired cans of food, and cats."
As a regular downloader and saver of pertinent articles, cute pictures of Henry (our family goldendoodle), and memorable kids' quotes, I can see how this digital clutter can be overwhelming without organization.
Having a system in place for managing your professional and personal world is a must (and maybe a few less pictures of Henry).
Do you have thousands of photos and emails stored on your devices or in the cloud? If so, you might be a digital hoarder. But is that as bad as being hoarder in real life?

"Gifted kids are NOT good at everything just because we are considered 'gifted' in one subject. Everything does NOT come easy to us just because we are 'smart'." -Lily, 10 years old, fifth grade
This week at Elevate Counseling, we're talking about the gifted population...a group of individuals, from tweens to adults, that I am very passionate about understanding and serving. The quote above touches on just one misconception regarding giftedness, but there are several others. In this week's blog post, I address those misconceptions and explain not only what giftedness is, but also what it is NOT.
The term "gifted" is a familiar to many, but what does it mean, and are the inherent challenges for people who are gifted?
