Breaking a deeply ingrained habit is hard. Habits become reflexive through repetition.
When behaviors are repeated often enough, they get stored in a different area of the brain. 🧠
These habits require less concentrated energy to complete (this is why you can take a shower without thinking carefully about all of the necessary steps).
😃 This is great for habits you want to keep around but is problematic for less desirable behaviors. 😫 This means it requires more concentrated efforts to stop these reflexive habits.

During my free time, I train for endurance running races, which means I have a lot of time available for podcast listening! I recently came across iconic couples therapist, Ester Perel's podcast, "Where Should We Begin."
Perel describes it as a "podcast for anyone who has ever loved."
In it, couples step into Perel's office and listeners get a "fly on the wall" view as they anonymously bare the raw, intimate, and profound details of their story. Covering topics from infidelity, to disconnection, to loss, it's a space for people to be heard and gain understanding. It's also a place for listeners to learn, grow and feel empowered in our own relationships. Check it out!

Sometimes it can be hard to make choices that we know are good for us in the long run because we get caught up in the moment and make an emotional decision.
Our brains are reactionary and motivated by emotion! 🧠⚡
When you are faced with the choice between a short-term gain and a long-term goal, pause and make the choice that leads to the life you want to live.

Have you ever thought someone was intelligent simply because they were attractive?
Or dismissed a news story because it ran in a media source you didn’t like?
Have you ever thought or said, “I knew that was going to happen!” in reference to a team winning, a stock going up in value, or some other unpredictable event occurring?
If you replied "yes” to any of these, then you ARE HUMAN and, like the rest of us, sometimes are guilty of relying on a cognitive bias.
We are often presented with situations in life where we need to make a decision with imperfect information, and we unknowingly rely on prejudices or biases as a mental shortcut.
Check out this article by Very Well Mind, which explains the most common cognitive biases so you can improve your critical thinking skills!
Cognitive biases can impair rational judgment, lead to poor decisions, and cause us to believe falsehoods. Learn common types of bias that sway your thinking.

So often we are bogged down by our day's stressors, worries, or frustrations that we can't proactively "live" our life.
Everyone has these feelings from time to time. But if you find yourself feeling paralyzed or overwhelmed more often than not, something more serious may be at play.
You may be suffering from a mood disorder, like Anxiety or Depression.

When you learn to accept that being uncomfortable is an essential part of progress and learning, you become primed for growth - At Harvest Collegiate High School in Manhattan, they find opportunities to teach tenacity and refer to this experience as "Joyful Learning."
I work with children, teens, and adults providing individual counseling. I strive to help the people I support gain awareness, providing guidance through collaboratively exploring the conscious and sometimes unconscious factors that might be motivating you. Together, we can discover strategies to push past the things that might be holding you back.
Humans are resilient. I hope that I can provide a safe space for you to open up and share your thoughts and emotions with me.
💥 Negative judgments about yourself may feel like truths, but you do not have to let these thoughts define you.
🎉 Challenge the negative voices in your head and replace them with something that serves you.
