Technically, A Mother's Touch Massage Therapy is a one-woman show. I’m Priscilla Davis and I’m the Massage Therapist, the receptionist, the head of Marketing, the CEO, CFO, etc. However, there is a young lady behind the scenes, who has everything to do with how this company of one began and why I continue to chug along. So, it is very much our story. I hope you’ll read it and be inspired to take care of yourself and move your own mountains.
When Emma was born, we were surprised that she came with a bonus Chromosome #21, aka Down syndrome. This didn’t change how we felt about being parents but it did mean we needed to change course a bit. She needed me home to make sure she received all the care she needed like Physical Therapy appointments, Occupational Therapy, & Dr.’s appointments. But we were a young couple and we had very little means back then. I tried some Direct Sales and it worked out well for me until the housing crash. What now? I needed to make money for our little family but I also needed to be home for Emma. But what could I do?
When I was 14, I started rubbing my friends’ shoulders and hands and it brought me immense joy and satisfaction to make people putty in my hands. I just never thought I could make a living at it. All these years later (15 to be exact), I wondered, “Could this be a way to provide for our little family and still be available for Emma?” There was only one way to find out.
I started school at UEI in January of 2010. I was so nervous but excited to learn something new. I had no idea that I was about to discover a new passion ( that would lead to a few others)! As part of my curriculum, I had to receive massages weekly! It was wonderful! Here I was working harder than ever, adding God knows how many more hours to my already crammed schedule, running from the bus stop to Emma’s daycare then to school, and then back again, classwork, tests, studying, homework, Dr.’s appointments, therapy appointments, pre-school...I should have been even more exhausted than ever! But I wasn’t. I felt better than ever and I knew I had Massage Therapy to thank for it.
