But what’s really happening upstairs?

A question we receive a lot is…
Why do my gums bleed when I brush/floss my teeth?
The most common reason is that you have an excess buildup of plaque or tartar, which comes from eating sugary or acidic foods, and a lack of brushing.
Plaque and tartar allow bacteria to grow along the gumline.
Regularly brushing and flossing can help to prevent sensitivity and bleeding from the gums.
We'll say it again - brush your teeth!

How do I choose the right dentist for me?
It's important to find a dentist whom you can get along with. If you and your dentist “vibe”, there are still some other things to consider:
-Is the appearance of the office clean and professional?
-Is the appointment schedule convenient for you?
-Is the office near to where you live?
-Does the dentist explain and offer advice regarding good oral health?
-Are the costs of treatments given to you before being scheduled?
-Do they have a good reputation?
Having semi annual visits to the dentist is one of the best ways to maintain good oral health. So make sure you find the right fit to ensure that, after your dental cleaning, you’ll have a reason to keep smiling.

Considering going to the dentist for a check up?

Here’s what the process would look like:

First, the hygienist will do a cleaning, and will use various tools in order to remove tartar and plaque from around the gum line and surface of the teeth.

Then, the hygienist will give your teeth a quick polish to ensure a bright and shiny smile!

Meantime, the hygienist may also take x-rays or report anything they see to the dentist.

Next, the dentist will arrive and take a look at your teeth, gums, throat and neck, to make sure nothing is out of the ordinary. The dentist will review the x-rays and recommend any treatment you may need in order to maintain good oral health.

Finally you get to have a quick chat with your dentist about your general oral health habits – and, if you want, take a moment to shoot the breeze!

And there you have it! As long as you’ve been taking good care of your teeth, you should be all set to go.

Ouch!

Sensitive teeth are common, but just because they’re common doesn’t mean they’re welcome.

While the phenomenon of sensitive teeth is caused by a number of different factors, we have a few ready solutions to the problem:

First, and obviously, use a toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth.

Second, use only soft bristled toothbrushes.

Third, if you are a grinder, consider using a mouthguard at night.

And, lastly – come visit us ;)

One study found that 73% of Americans brush their teeth twice per day.

For the other 27%, here is some info for you!

Preventing tooth decay can be very simple, and one of the best ways to achieve this is to brush twice daily: once before you go to bed, and once at some other point during the day.

Fluoride toothpaste works the best in this case.

Keep that up, see your dentist twice per year, and you’re in the clear!
