Hi all!

I wanted to let you know about a new service I've been offering! It's called the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) and it's a brief music listening program that has been clinically shown to promote greater Nervous System regulation. 🎶

The SSP is designed to activate a part of the human nervous system, known as the social engagement system. When this system is online, we experience a physiological state of safety, from which we can experience feelings of well-being, social connection, growth and learning.

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) was developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, author of the Polyvagal Theory. Also known as the "science of safety", this theory explains that we detect cues of safety and signals of danger from within our bodies, from the world around us, and through our connection with others. This process happens beneath our conscious awareness. Our Nervous System responds to this information by shifting into states of either safety or defense.

For a variety of reasons, including exposure to trauma or chronic stress, we can become stuck in chronic states of defense.

This can have devastating effects on well-being, as the state of our nervous system directly impacts how we think, feel, behave, and how we connect with others.

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP):

👉🏼 is a "bottom up" approach, meaning it creates change at the level of the body's physiology. Mental, emotional, and behavioral changes follow.

👉🏼 uses specially filtered music 🎶to acoustically stimulate the vagus nerve (the main nerve of the parasympathetic nervous system). This calms our physiological state, promoting greater well-being, ease, social engagement, and growth in learning.

👉🏼 interrupts chronic states of nervous system defense by delivering sounds and frequencies associated with a calm human voice, inviting the nervous system into a state of safety - just as the parent "coos" to sooth their crying baby...or as we speak in a soft and tender tone to our beloved pets. 🐕‍🦺🐈‍⬛

👉🏼 is evidence-based and supported by research.📝

👉🏼 has demonstrated benefits for individuals with trauma, anxiety, sensory processing differences, auditory sensitivities, inattention and hyperactivity, and other conditions.

The SSP is not psychotherapy. It is often used as an adjunct to therapy and other healing modalities as it supports a physiological response that allows us to engage in therapy from a calm and grounded state.

I am offering the SSP remotely in NYS. Please feel free to reach out if you think it might be of support to you or someone in your life. I've also added a page to my website with lots of educational information about the SSP, the Nervous System, and Polyvagal Theory. Feel free to check that out and let me know if you're interested in learning more!

Hi all! I recently posted this to my private group page called "An Authentic Space", which is a page dedicated to learning about and fostering authentic connection. (Feel free to join us there if you haven't already at https://www.facebook.com/groups/475255237721416/?ref=share).

But I wanted to also put this out here to make sure that I'm reaching everyone who may be interested (and please share if you'd like):

I've got some exciting plans in the works and I'd love your feedback!

You may know that I've been developing a group program focused on helping people to cultivate greater authentic connection in their lives. This program is intended for anyone wishing to deepen their sense of authentic connection to themselves and others.

It is a mindfulness-based, trauma-informed program that weaves together elements and practices from my favorite healing approaches, including Mindfulness-Based and Compassion-Oriented therapies, Internal Family Systems, Attachment-Based therapies, Polyvagal Theory, Somatic Experiencing, Compassionate Inquiry, and Buddhist Psychology.

The program will emphasize experiential learning - meditations, reflective writing exercises, self-compassion practices, and small group reflections. It will also offer plenty of psychoeducation.

There will be opportunities to foster safe, relational connection within the group, practice authentic expression, deepen self-inquiry, and develop or strengthen a mindfulness practice.

Here's where I'd love your feedback:

The program will run weekly on Zoom for approximately 6-8 weeks and each class will last approximately 1-1.5 hours. I am leaning towards a start time in the early to mid-evening (EST) on a week day (M-F).

I'm still working out pricing information but the first cohort will receive a "pilot-program" discounted rate. My hope is that the participants in the "pilot" cohort will help me to refine the flow of the course.

If you're interested, or if you know of others who would be interested in participating in first round of programming, please let me know by commenting here (this is totally non-commital...it's all just feedback for me). If you're inclined to do so, please let me know the time frames that you would be most likely to participate. Also, feel free to comment with any other questions or feedback you might like to offer.

Thanks so much!

These are a few of my favorite MLK quotes, shared in celebration of his contributions to humanity. I particularly love to take the sentiments of these quotes and turn them inward.

"Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

“It takes empathy, patience and compassion to overcome anger, hatred and resentment.”

"I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear."

- Dr. Martin Luther King

Check out my dear friend and colleague's new e-course! Kristin Brenner - Integrity•Mind•Body is such a kind and skillful teacher! This resource will help foster and nurture your Mindfulness and Self-Compassion practice!

I am not a fan of Black Friday.

I have never loved the consumerism on steroids, and I always want to linger with the quiet afterglow of family time and savor the feelings of gratitude that well up in me when I have all my kids around me.

But this year is a little different. This year, I have created something that can help you turn toward yourself, and learn to care for yourself in times of struggle.

I am excited to share with you my new course Staying Grounded in Difficult Times: An Introduction to Somatic Mindfulness Practices.

We all face struggles.

This is something we don't have a choice about and cannot control.

What we can control is how we choose to respond.

In this course, I share simple, easy-to-use (and learn!) mindfulness, self-compassion, and embodiment practices that will help you to feel more settled, more connected, and more aware of what you can control when life gets challenging.

The practices that I teach in the course will help you to connect with your own inner knowing and awareness.

The course is designed for those new to mindfulness and self-compassion practices AND for those hoping to refresh their practice or add a little more heart and warmth.

This weekend only (Friday-Monday) Staying Grounded in Difficult Times is on sale for half-off! Enter coupon code BLACKFRIDAY and pay only $49.

The course includes The course includes:
🔆 Video instruction of all practices
🔆 A workbook to print up and use again and again
🔆 Audio that you can put on your phone so you can practice anywhere, anytime
🔆 Lifetime Access

It makes a great gift, both to yourself, and to someone you love.
