Nearly 100 creative, talented, and passionate individuals now consider the former McMullen-Leavens Shirt Factory their home away from home. The owner love of history has led to a lasting love affair since he first visited the abandoned building in 1997. Even before he owned it, he began working to preserve the property. Visitors will find a variety of classes, shops offering a wide range of products, professional services, working artists, galleries, and much more. In the halls are the owners attempts to preserve the building's history and honor those in the local community who made the original shirt manufacturer's business here so successful.

I have people asking me all the time when is the South Street Pavilion going back up and what is happening to it. Although it only took a week to take down, it took 8 months to get the permissions to put it back up, the final planning board meeting was at the beginning of December. Although I had hoped to get the first few sections up this year, with the cold temperatures and frozen ground this month, we have pushed this to the spring. This is an article that the Post Star did a few weeks ago (had no idea they were writing an article, happened to see it in the checkout line of the grocery store and bought a copy). The article makes it sound like everything will be back up in a few months (this is not the case). The pavilion will be split into 4 new structures. My plan is to get the 30x36 foot section by the smokestack of The Shirt Factory (left side center of last picture) and another identical section at the South West corner of the Rock Hill Bakehouse & Cafe parking lot done in the early spring before the Thursday Markets start for the season (toward the bottom center in last picture). Facing that to the right in the bottom picture is one bay of the pavilion (30x18) that will become a permanent stage. The stage project will likely be a project for spring 2027. Across the street, behind Glens Falls Produce will be a pole barn style building with 2 wings that will become our maintenance storage area (will store our loader, manlift, forklift, snowplows, etc.) this will use up the other 1/2 of the pavilion. Before we can start that project we will have to do quite a bit of site work in terms of grading and stormwater management (drywells) that will be plumbed into the roof drainage of the new structure. Lastly there will be a new building constructed between our animal demonstration area (the grassy area across from Sweet Side Records) and the bike path extension that will be public bathrooms (that will be open for special events), this is the most involved building requiring both extensive plumbing and interior and exterior fit and finish, and will likely be something tackled in 2027. Anyway, thats the plan. The Shirt Factory, Glens Falls , , ,

I was down in Guy Savio's studio a couple of weeks ago and saw this stunning 14 foot tall window he had restored in his shop All In Glass Studios Too in The Shirt Factory. He sent me a couple of pictures of the pickup of the window and the restoration in progress. It is going to be installed down in a barn in Saratoga. Our Story

Nearly 100 creative, talented, and passionate individuals now consider the former McMullen-Leavens Shirt Factory their home away from home. Visitors will find a variety of shops offering a wide range of products, professional services, working artists, galleries, classes and much more.

After attending an auction at the building in 1996 that sold off much of the production equipment of the former shirt and dress factory, the current owner began working to preserve the property even though he would not take possession of the property for another 3 years . In the halls are original machines, garments and pictures that display the building's history and honor those in the local community who made the original shirt and dress manufacturing business here so successful.

Individual businesses set their own hours, it is best to check hours on our website or most shops are open Thursday through Saturday 11am to 5pm
