The 12th annual Pennies for Pink coin drive, held in October, was once again a tremendous success in supporting cancer patients at the C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital. Earlier this month, National Honor Society students proudly presented two checks for a total of $4,407.52 to the Glens Falls Hospital Foundation, representing this year’s fundraising total.

Founded by former student Jack Sweet (GFHS ’24), Pennies for Pink has now raised an impressive $44,979.93 over 12 years, thanks to the generosity and compassion of . Throughout October, the Glens Falls City School District participates in coin drives and other fundraising efforts, with all proceeds used to purchase gas cards for patients traveling to and from cancer treatment appointments at the C.R. Wood Cancer Center.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this year’s effort such a meaningful success!

This season, we’re celebrating the generosity, compassion, and community spirit that make our hospital truly special. Over the next 12 days, we’ll be highlighting meaningful ways our employees give back to our community and strengthen essential programs that touch thousands of local lives.

Cindy’s Comfort Camp is a free, weekend overnight camp for children and teens age 6-17 who have experienced the death of a parent or sibling. Our camp is based on the belief that children and teens are helped in difficult times by having an opportunity to gently explore their thoughts and feelings while also having fun at Double H Hole in the Woods Camp. Our staff is made up of professional grief counselors from the C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital and trained volunteers.

Cindy’s Comfort Camps and Cindy’s Retreat are named in memory of the late Cindy Ginsburg, whose affection and support for the camp and its campers will long be remembered. Cindy was instrumental in the establishment of Cindy’s Retreat, a weekend retreat for women living with, and beyond, cancer.

As we wrap up the 12 Days of Giving, let us all take a moment to reflect on the power of connection and generosity during this season of giving. Be safe, be kind, and be well. Happy Holidays!

Established in 2020 and coordinated through GFH staff, the GFH Honor Guard is a volunteer group of nurses who attend funeral services free of charge for a nurse who has passed away to serve in support of the nurse’s family and in respect for the nurse’s service over the years. The project includes a significantly larger footprint, enhanced private treatment areas, and improved patient flow. Portions of the renovated space are already open, with full completion anticipated in early 2027 — all while the ED remains fully operational.
