Nurses at Glens Falls Hospital, as part of their annual tradition, delivered "Day of Thanks" baskets to their colleagues who support the clinical programs across the hospital. It's their way of letting the Security team, Housekeepers, Pharmacy and Tech staff, and others know how much they are apprciated. Just as important - how much they contribute to healing and good health in our hospital.

Did you know?

Diabetes is the leading cause of new cases of blindness in the U.S. for 20- to 74-year-olds, primarily due to diabetic retinopathy. Nearly half of all people with diabetes will develop diabetic retinopathy.

November is American Diabetes Awareness Month including diabetic eye disease awareness. Occupational Therapy plays a crucial role in managing diabetic retinopathy, a common complication of diabetes. OTs help clients with diabetes by providing education, adapting techniques, and incorporating aspects of the diabetes regimen into their daily lives. They work with clients to enhance their visual environment and incorporate tactile and auditory feedback for self-management tasks, such as testing blood glucose levels. Collaboration with diabetes and low-vision professionals is also an important aspect of therapy to ensure a comprehensive diabetes management program. Our Occupational Therapy team through Glens Falls Hospital offers a Low Vision program that addresses functional limitations associated with diabetic retinopathy and ways to manage their diabetes effectively.

For questions regarding our Outpatient Occupational Therapy Low Vision Program please contact the Rehabilitation and Wellness Center at 518-926-2000.

Today Daisy and Harper visited the hospital to express their gratitude to patients who are veterans here at Glens Falls Hospital. The girls have been learning about the sacrifice our veterans have made, and also wanted to provide doughnuts to the staff that care for them each day.

Thank you, Daisy and Harper!

Congratulations to Emma Edge, RN – DAISY Award Honoree!

Emma Edge of has been recognized with the DAISY Award for her extraordinary compassion, dedication, and quiet strength in nursing care. Emma received four nominations!

Emma’s patients and colleagues describe her as someone who sees the human behind the diagnosis. Whether she’s singing nursery rhymes to bring joy to developmentally delayed patients, walking alongside someone through a tough bowel prep with humor and empathy, or staying by a medically complex patient’s side despite emotional challenges—Emma never wavers in her commitment to care.

One patient shared:
“Emma made the hospital a more humanized place, especially when you’re in there all alone. She was my voice when it came to my doctor choice. She’ll never be forgotten.”

A colleague wrote:
“Even through tears, Emma never gave up. She walked back into the room, reassured the patient, and continued with kindness and patience. She made her feel seen.”

Emma’s quiet leadership, tireless support for her team, and heartfelt connection with patients embody everything the DAISY Award stands for.

Thank you, Emma, for making healing human. You are truly one of a kind.

Congratulations to Carly Vreugde, RN – A recent DAISY Award Honoree!

We are proud to recognize Carly for her extraordinary compassion and dedication to patient care. Recently, Carly went above and beyond for a patient admitted to the ICU with severe agitation and a history of Autism and psychiatric disorders. Instead of confining him to his room, Carly walked with him around the unit, engaged him in meaningful conversation, and even printed out cartoon characters for him to color at the nurses' station.

Her kindness, patience, and genuine connection helped calm the patient without the need for additional sedation. Carly’s actions not only made a profound impact on the patient’s well-being but also inspired her colleagues and relieved pressure on the ICU team.

Dr. Kristoffer Neu shared, “She really took on a role much like a big sister… It was extremely touching to see her taking care of this patient throughout the day.”

Carly exemplifies what it means to care for the whole person—with heart and soul. 💙

Please join us in celebrating Carly’s well-deserved DAISY Award!
