At Glens Falls Hospital, we are proud to celebrate four years without a single Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) on our surgical unit 4 West (4W).

This incredible accomplishment reflects the dedication, skill and teamwork of 4 West. Our nursing teams consistently put patient safety first.

CAUTIs are serious and potentially life-threatening infections that can lead to longer hospital stays and higher healthcare costs. About 12% to 16% of adults in the hospital will have an indwelling urinary catheter at some time during their stay. For every day the catheter stays in, the patient’s chance of getting a CAUTI goes up by 3% to7%. While acute care hospitals across the United States experience more than 17,000 CAUTI events per year (over 400,0000 annually across all healthcare settings), 4 West’s achievement highlights what is possible through vigilance, collaboration, and high-quality care.

Congratulations to the entire team for setting a high standard for excellence and making a lasting difference for our patients.

Glens Falls Hospital extends our heartfelt thanks to Bill Osborn, President and Founder, and Dave Lebel, Board Member of the Ben Osborn Memorial Fund, for their ongoing generous donations of teddy bears to brighten the days of our patients and visitors.

These special bears have truly become part of our hospital family - bringing comfort, smiles, and a little extra warmth during what can often be a challenging time.

Donated in loving memory of Corporal Ben Osborn, who was killed in Afghanistan while serving in the United States Army during Operation Enduring Freedom, the Fund carries forward Ben’s legacy by promoting the values he embodied: a charitable heart, strong work ethic, sportsmanship, leadership, discipline, and pride. We are honored to help carry his legacy forward in our community. Thank you for your continued partnership and generosity.

Entering your final year of Nursing School? Be a part of the Summer Externship at Glens Falls Hospital!

"Participating in the Student Nurse Extern Program this past summer was an invaluable experience that further prepared me to enter my final semesters of nursing school. This program allowed me to see the nursing role from handoff report to prioritization, understanding clinical decision-making skills in real time, and patient advocacy.

I was able to work closely with experienced nurses who were supportive, approachable, and genuinely invested in my learning. I felt welcomed from the moment I stepped on the floor, and would have never imagined the connections and friendships I made.

This experience allowed me to enter my final semesters with confidence and a sense of preparedness I did not have before the program. I would highly recommend this externship to nursing students who are looking for a strong foundation in continuing their education, and a meaningful clinical experience." - Julia Cataldo, Lab Assistant, Laboratory Support Services
