This February we’re celebrating our love for libraries — and especially the DAR Library, a truly one-of-a-kind treasure for history and genealogy lovers! Founded in 1896, the DAR Library has grown into one of the nation’s premier genealogical research centers, with an incredible collection of over 200,000 books, 10,000 research files, and thousands of manuscript items covering American history and family heritage. Many of the nearly 40,000 family histories in the collection are unique or rare and found in very few libraries nationwide.

Whether you’re tracing your roots, studying Revolutionary War era records, or exploring special collections on African American, Native American, and women’s history, the DAR Library’s rich resources are free and open to the public. Visit www.dar.org/library to discover more and plan your visit!

The 2026 DAR Library Restoration Project is beginning in July 2026. We are excited to restore this historic space and to complete the important preservation work to better serve Library visitors for many years to come in the future! For updates, please follow the DAR Library on Facebook where we will be posting reminders, helpful tips, and progress reports on the project. Dating looked a little different before the apps. Do you have an ancestor who might have been seeking something similar, or who might have been the ideal respondent?

Inspired by historical personal ads.
