Every time I walk into the AARD meeting, I’m reminded why I fell in love with dentistry in the first place.
▪️
The level of thought.
The precision.
The accountability.
The commitment to doing things the right way, not the easy way.

The American Academy of Restorative Dentistry is a room full of clinicians who hold themselves to the highest possible standard. Not for recognition. Not for ego. But for their patients.

I’ve been fortunate to attend for over 14 years, and I never take that for granted. Each year I leave sharper, more inspired, and more grounded in what excellence truly looks like.
▪️
And none of this journey would be possible without mentorship. Dennis has helped guide me through this path, pushing me to think deeper, work harder, and elevate my standards beyond what I thought was possible. That kind of mentorship changes a career.

She came to us at a big moment in her life. Heading into high school and missing her lateral incisors. That kind of transition is already a lot for any teenager, and her smile was something she thought about every day.
▪️
From the start, this was a team effort. We worked closely with her orthodontist throughout braces to carefully plan spacing, alignment, and final tooth position. The goal was always the same: give her a result that felt natural, confident, and non-removable, something she wouldn’t have to think about or take in and out.
▪️
After orthodontics, we completed KOR whitening to brighten her natural teeth, then designed porcelain Maryland bridges to replace her missing laterals. Conservative. Precise. Stable. And most importantly, age-appropriate and confidence-boosting.
▪️
Watching her see her finished smile and knowing she’s walking into high school feeling comfortable and proud is why collaborative dentistry matters. This is about timing, planning, and listening just as much as it’s about technique.

Full-circle moments like this never get old.

This incredible pediatric dentist came to me through word-of-mouth and somewhere between talking teeth, traveling; we realized we were trained by the same pediatric instructor in dental school. Small world, shared roots, and a whole lot of mutual respect.
▪️
There’s something especially meaningful about caring for a colleague’s smile. When another dentist trusts you with their own dental health, it’s not just about the work; it’s about philosophy, communication, and knowing you’ll listen as much as you lead.
▪️
Grateful for the connections, the shared history, and the trust that makes moments like this possible.

Getting braces off should feel like the finish line, but for this teenager, the white spots left on his teeth made him hesitant to really smile. His mom noticed it right away, too,

We talked through the options together and focused on a conservative plan that protected his natural teeth while giving him the confidence he deserved. We started with KOR whitening to brighten his smile, then used ICON white spot treatment to gently blend those areas back into the enamel. No drilling, no veneers, just thoughtful, precise care.
▪️
The moment he saw the mirror, his reaction said everything. A confident smile and a result that still looks natural and age-appropriate. These cases remind me of how powerful small details can be, especially for young patients at such an important stage of life.

Growth doesn’t always come from momentum. Sometimes it comes from pause.

This chapter has asked me to slow down, reflect, and be honest with myself. Not every transition is easy, but each one carries lessons if you’re willing to sit with them.
▪️
I’m grateful for the support around me and for the opportunity to grow with more intention, clarity, and humility. The work continues, both professionally & personally; and I’m committed to showing up better each day.

This patient came to me with advanced periodontal disease, significant decay, and a deep desire to keep her natural teeth. She had already been told that removing all her teeth was the only solution.
▪️
She wanted a plan that respected her goals (keep as many of her natural teeth as she could), her comfort, and who she is.
▪️
Before any treatment decisions were made, we listened. We discussed what mattered most to her, collaborated on a path forward, and built a plan designed around preserving teeth whenever possible while restoring strength, function, and esthetics.
▪️
Through a carefully coordinated approach using implants, porcelain crowns, and porcelain veneers, we created a smile that feels stable, comfortable, and aligned with her bright personality. Her bite has never felt better and she no longer feels the need to hide her smile.
▪️
This is what a patient-centered rehabilitation/rejuvenation looks like when expertise, collaboration, and intention guide every decision.
