TEVFD mourns the passing of Dr. James Dudley. Dr. Dudley began his service to the Northern Neck/Middle Peninsula community in the late 1980s, when Riverside Health System assumed control of Tidewater Memorial Hospital. Dr. Dudley became the Operational Medical Director (OMD) for nearly every EMS licensed agency in the area, including TEVFD. Dr. Dudley was an incredibly gifted doctor; but he was an even greater teacher and mentor to every EMS provider, nurse, affiliated medical provider and doctor that he came into contact with. His legacy will live on through the knowledge he shared to all that were fortunate enough to know him. We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife and children during this difficult time.

As communities in Virginia experience increased levels of influenza and other respiratory illnesses, VDH and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association urge the public to take steps to prevent illness and seek care, when needed.

Most people with flu have mild to moderate illness and can recover at home with rest, hydration, and over-the-counter fever reducers and pain relievers.
